Position Information 

Newcastle High School is a large, inclusive, and diverse comprehensive school, situated on two sites in the centre of the City of Newcastle.  The Parkway Avenue site is in Hamilton South and caters for students from Year 7 through to Year 12, with a diverse, mainstream curriculum.  The Cooks Hill Campus site is on Laman and Union Streets and delivers an alternative curriculum in partnership with Big Picture Education and caters for students from Year 9 through to Year 12.  The Head Teacher Administration position being recruited is on the Parkway Avenue site.  Student enrolment in 2023 is approximately 1,207, with 136 students at Cooks Hill Campus; 11% identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, 3% have English as an additional language or dialect.  We have a Support Unit made up of seven classes with 67 students.

Specific Selection Criteria 
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria;
  1. Demonstrated expertise in leading and managing the design, implementation and improvement of administrative systems including timetable construction, Sentral, CANVAS, Edval, and/or School Bytes to support teaching and learning.
  2. High levels of communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills to work professionally and collaboratively with staff, students, and the community.
  3. Proven capacity to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement systems, processes and initiatives that address whole school strategic priorities.
  4. Capacity to work collaboratively, liaise, and negotiate with key stakeholders including the Aboriginal school community, to support and develop a school culture focused on improved academic, social and cultural outcomes for Aboriginal students.

 

  
General Selection Criteria 
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
