Job overview

Tobermory Parent Council welcomes your application to be our Head Teacher. We will be here to support whoever is appointed. Before then, we hope we can help you appreciate the opportunity to #movetomull and #teachintobermory

We are an active Parent Council, part of an active - in all senses - community.

Tobermory is an innovative learning community (ok, we stole that line from a pro). If you have a TES Scotland subscription, search “Tobermory” to read about recent work on Visible Learning.

The school uses distance learning in some S5/6 subjects through Heriot Watt University, and video conferencing with our FE partner Argyll College (UHI).

The Head Teacher role here includes the option of some teaching – a great way to get to know the students.

Tobermory is a high achieving school, consistently performing above local and national averages. There are 20 teachers in secondary, 5 in primary, 2 in pre- 5, plus Learning Support. Almost all classes are in groups of 20 or fewer. There is a very high level of staff participation in extra curricular activities including sports, drama and a packed programme of trips.

Tobermory is a relatively small school (current roll : 136 secondary, 62 primary and 22 pre-5). But any 3-18 school can be challenging for a Head Teacher. And while the island location is certainly attractive, being remote brings its own challenges as well.

If you have questions about the school, the current Acting Head can be contacted at 01688 302062. Alternatively, you can email parentcouncil.ths@gmail.com  to arrange to speak to one of the Parent Council. This would be in confidence and entirely outside of the interview/selection process.
