The Catholic High School, Chester is a Catholic Voluntary Academy situated in the historic, Roman city of Chester. Our school truly lives by its ethos and provides the best Catholic education for all, whatever their faith background. We pride ourselves on providing an inclusive education for over 900 students from the age of 11 to 18 including a thriving Sixth Form. We have a 15 place Autism Resource Base, reflecting our desire and determination to provide a fulfilling and rewarding education for all pupils. Our students cover the whole range of abilities and through our Catholic, family orientated ethos, we aim to support our young people to be the best they can be in all that they do.

A unique opportunity has arisen for an outstanding candidate to take up the position of Head Teacher. The vacancy arises due to the retirement of the current Head Teacher, who has successfully led the school for the last 14 years, achieving Outstanding from our Diocesan Section 48 Inspection in 2017 and a consistent Ofsted rating of Good.

“The school has a distinct ‘family feel’ that emphasises respect and compassion for all. Pupils are happy and loyal to their school and are encouraged to be intellectually curious and independent thinkers. All staff play a lead role in nurturing pupils’ confidence, empathy and spiritual awareness.” Ofsted 2016

The Governing Board’s determination is for the school to be outstanding in both pastoral care and academic achievement. Our new Head Teacher will be an inspirational and dynamic leader who will   take the school on to the next stage of its journey to achieve this goal.

The school offers:

  • A highly effective and committed staff, providing inspirational teaching and outstanding care and guidance for every student
  • A community, inclusive of all, supporting and respecting everyone and welcoming diversity.
  • A highly skilled, dedicated Governing Board and a strong senior leadership team.

Our new Head Teacher will:

  • Be a practising and committed Catholic whose faith demonstrates the Gospel values in everything they do.
  • Be able to balance effectively the educational and pastoral demands with a thorough understanding of the financial challenges facing the school.
  • Understand the specific challenges that face SEN and Pupil Premium students and provide an environment that helps all students achieve their full potential

Informal visits to the school are welcomed on the morning of April 29th 2019.  Please contact the Head Teacher’s PA, Mrs Kim Mallon on 01244 981 600 to confirm arrangements.

Full details of the post, the application process and an application form are available on the school’s website [www.christofidelis.org.uk] and through the diocese  [www.dioceseofshrewsbury.org

Applications should be emailed to:  sue.jenkinson@dioceseofshrewsbury.org by midday on May 2nd 2019 and not sent to the school.

Shortlisting will be on 13th May 2019.  Interviews will be held on Thursday 23rd and 24th May 2019.

The Governing Board and the Diocese are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young persons and the Head Teacher must ensure that the highest priority is given to following the guidance and regulations to safeguard children and young people.  The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure from the DBS.
