The Dormston School is an Ofsted Grade 2 rated secondary school based in Dudley, West Midlands. Our school is a mixed gender 11-16 community school of 1,111 students. We are seeking to appoint a new Head Teacher who will have the ability to consolidate and build upon our current successes and continue to improve the school further on our journey towards becoming an outstanding school.

The school enjoys an enviable reputation locally, which is reflected in our being over-subscribed through first choice applications alone. At a time when many schools are facing financial and staffing constraints, The Dormston School offers a highly skilled, motivated and experienced staff and leadership team, a wonderful learning environment and a strong financial position. Required for January 2019 the Governors of Dormston School are seeking to appoint an aspirational and inspirational Head Teacher who will:

  • continue to improve our academic results;
  • provide inspirational leadership, ensuring delivery of academic excellence through the highest possible standards of teaching and learning;
  • consolidate and continue to develop our community links and collaborative networks;
  • strengthen and improve upon our reputation as a caring, nurturing and inclusive school;
  • maintain high aspirations for students, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to face the challenges of the ever-changing world.

The Dormston School is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school without sixth form, situated in Sedgley, near Dudley in the West Midlands. It is a community state school. A larger than average secondary school, Dormston provides 1,120 places for students aged 11-16.

The Dormston School was established in 1935. It has undergone a number of renovations and additions over the years, including a £4 million arts and sports centre, which opened in 1996 and was funded by the National Lottery. The Dormston Centre, a building that joins on to the school and contains a theatre, sports hall, art gallery and gymnasium, was built in 2000. Our newest block was built in 2017 providing an additional 5 classrooms to our site.

Dormston is committed to helping to shape the lives of the young people it provides for. Its ethos is built on the motto "knowledge is strength". The broad curriculum is combined with extra-curricular activities to offer students a great range of opportunities in and out of the classroom.

Teachers at the secondary school place high expectations on students. Regardless of background or academic starting point, students are always encouraged to aim for excellence – an ambition that The Dormston School strives to help them achieve.

The school is a calm place to learn. Teachers expect pupils to behave well. They rise to this challenge. Teachers manage  pupils’ behaviour quietly and efficiently.
