Position Information 

Macksville High School is a co–educational comprehensive high school which resides proudly on the ancestral homelands of the Gumbaynggirr People, nestled between the beautiful Nambucca Heads and Scotts Head coastline, on the Mid North Coast. We have a tradition of high academic, sporting, cultural and civic achievements. The current school enrolment is 512 students including a significant number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students (16%).

Our Strategic Improvement Plan Directions are Student Growth and Attainment, Assessment for Learning and Partnerships and Pathways. Macksville High School aspires to be a respectful, safe, positive and inclusive learning community which is under-pinned by our values of Respect, Honesty, Pride and Teamwork. 

We have a Learning Centre, Tutorial Centre and Multi-categorical Classes which provide direct specialist assistance for students and staff through developing personalised learning and social skill programs within a supportive environment. We are establishing our Foundation Program which is a new research based approach to the transition to secondary education for our Year 7 students.  Our library is an attractive space and includes a Senior Study and specialist provision for Distance Education. The teaching staff is made up of both experienced and early career teachers who are supported and assisted by our administrative and support staff. Our whole school community is dedicated to offering students every opportunity to reach their potential in a holistic learning environment. 

  
Specific Selection Criteria 
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 
1. A visable leader with a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively as part of the school executive team to drive quality, evidence based teaching initiatives related to the school's Strategic Improvement Plan, system targets and the implementation of the Department of Education policies that have sustained impact on student improvement.
2. Demonstrated capacity to successfully grow collaborative relationships with the local Aboriginal community to support student potential that further develops cultural identity, connection to culture and learning.
3. Lead a multifaceted faculty, demonstrating exemplary interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build teacher capacity, sustain productive relationships and lead collaboration and pedagogical change in a diverse team. 
4. Expert knowledge and understanding of the English Curriculum and Assessment, with approval to teach English Years 7 - 12 and a willingness to lead Extension 1 and 2 English, and the capacity to lead the faculty in the delivery of quality, engaged learning experiences, including a focus on sustaining and growing high-performance HSC data. 
5. Demonstrated enthusiastic, proactive leadership with strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and inspire students, staff, parents and the wider community. 
  
General Selection Criteria 
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
 
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
