Position Information 

Warrawong High School is a comprehensive, multicultural high school with a well deserved reputation for racial and social harmony. Situated in southern Wollongong, the student population is currently 545 including 46% of students with a language background other than English, 11% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander with students and families from 25 different nationalities. The school has a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all students and staff are valued. The school has high expectations with deep quality engagement, leading to our students being aspirational learners who make valuable contributions to the school and broader community. 

Our learning culture has been collaboratively developed and nurtured by a student centred approach to inform our school values of respect, responsibility and resilience. We proudly house the regions only Intensive English Centre, supporting new arrival, refugee and international students as they enter our country. We also feature a large and dynamic Special Education Unit, which supports students across the Illawarra with a diverse range of abilities.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

Approval to teach English 7-10 with a proven track record of outstanding classroom practice and the capacity to teach all HSC English courses including EAL/D, Extension 1 and 2.

Expertise in the leadership and implementation of quality differentiated teaching and learning programs utilising data analysis that informs teaching practice to meet the diverse range of student needs.

Proven ability to provide strong faculty leadership in developing staff collaboration, innovation and managing pedagogical change for teachers with a diverse range of skills and experiences.

Demonstrated capacity to be a dynamic member of the executive team, actively contributing to the school's vision with an emphasis on school improvement and engaging with the school community.

  
General Selection Criteria 
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
 
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
