Teaching ServiceThe Armidale Intensive English Centre (IEC) is hosted on the site of Armidale Secondary College.
The Armidale Intensive English Centre at Armidale Secondary College is the first newly established IEC outside of the Sydney metropolitan area in 40 years. It currently supports a growing number of newly arrived students, mainly from a refugee background. The Armidale Intensive English Centre provides comprehensive, specialist teaching and well-being support for newly arrived English language learners.
Armidale Secondary College operates on a state-of-the-art campus in the regional city of Armidale. Armidale is located in the Northern Tablelands. For the past six years, Armidale has been a designated regional refugee settlement location.
Armidale Secondary College has a current enrolment of 1140 (20% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander), is partially selective (Years 7-10), and has a comprehensive special education facility and an Aboriginal Learning and Engagement Centre. The Armidale Intensive English Centre has a current enrolment of 14 students with new arrivals consistently expected for the remainder of 2023.

Demonstrated ability to successfully lead EAL/D education for newly arrived EAL/D and refugee-background learners in a rural IEC setting

Leadership skills and experience to contribute to whole-school programs that are strategically targeted to the school’s Strategic Improvement Plan and have a positive impact on student learning outcomes

Demonstrated instructional leadership to lead a growing team of teaching and non-teaching staff to design educational and well-being programs that successfully accommodate the needs of newly arrived students

Highly developed communication and liaison skills to contribute to the settlement of learners from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in a rural setting that includes effectively collaborating with settlement agencies and stakeholders
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
