Job overview

Achievement for All

To strive for our children and young people to become successful learners, supporting them to achieve their full potential, participating in and contributing to all aspects of their lives.

On the retirement of our current head teacher, the children, staff and governors of Sandgate School are seeking to appoint a head to lead our team. Applications are invited from exceptional, motivated and inspirational individuals with proven track records of successful school leadership, essentially in the field of special education.

We are a highly regarded school currently catering for 70 children and young people who have either Statements of SEND or Education, Health and Care Plans, ages ranging from 3 to 19 years. The school enjoys excellent partnerships with many professionals and organisations and the SLT continues to value the support of the local authority.

The primary phase pupils are based in specialised provision in Kendal and the secondary phase students from KS4 upwards are co-located in newly built accommodation in a mainstream secondary school, Queen Katherine’s, located close by. Plans are well under way for the further development for KS3 students to become co-located as well.

WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  • A happy and caring community.
  • Children and young people with a wide range of learning needs who are responsive to our established curriculum.
  • A school situated in Kendal in the Lake District National Park in easy reach of motorway and rail networks. Due to our location students are able to benefit from outdoor education and have achieved Adventure Learning Accreditation. Sixth form students enjoy a week away kayaking off the coast of Scotland and our less able students make the most of the resources of the Lake District; they have even compiled a pamphlet recommending outings for wheel chair users.
  • A supportive and caring governing body and a strong team spirit among staff. Teaching is of very high quality and staff are offered every opportunity for personal and professional development.
  • An innovative and exciting future developing co-located opportunities for secondary phase students.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • A leader with a strong background of SEND education, with high expectations of excellence.
  • A leader with excellent oral and written communication skills, who will inspire and develop the staff team, and have an open and supportive approach with parents and carers.
  • A knowledgeable and skilful professional able to effectively manage the performance of colleagues and inspire the highest standards of teaching and learning.
  • An efficient manager who can interpret data and is keen to collaborate with other schools.
  • An inspirational leader with the skills and personality to take this excellent school forward to further achieve its high expectations.

If you are an ambitious senior leader in a good or outstanding department or SEND school, and have an open and positive leadership style with the requisite skills required for headship in this ever-changing educational field we would welcome your application.

Interested persons are warmly invited to an escorted visit of the school. Visits normally available during normal school hours on Mondays or Tuesdays (Half term 24th – 28th October). Exceptional arrangements can be made.

Closing date - 31st October 2016
Interview Dates - 15th & 16th November 2016 (2 days)
