We are looking for a Head Teacher to join Waterloo Lodge School in Chorley. Waterloo Lodge is an independent co-educational day school catering for 53 children between the ages of 11-18. The children and young people have an EHCP for social, emotional and mental health needs. A dedicated, specialist staff team ensure pupils learn at an appropriate level and pace in a calm & constructive atmosphere.

At Waterloo Lodge, we pride ourselves on helping the most vulnerable and hard to place children maximise their potential. We provide a therapeutic, supportive and inclusive learning environment where our young people learn to accept responsibility for their actions, make positive decisions and display pro-social behaviour.

About the role

This is your chance to join a high achieving team at Acorn Care and Education – the single largest private sector provider of specialist education and care services to local authorities across England, Scotland and Wales. You will work to, and with, the Assistant Director of Acorn Care and Education, in sustaining and improving the Schools performance and ratings. The schools recent Ofsted was judged at ‘Requires Improvement’ due to building facilities which was a surprise given the high standards of education and care. Our new Head Teacher will guide the school back to an outstanding judgement.

As Head Teacher, you will promote a relentless focus on the quality of education and deliver a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum that meets the needs of children and young people and produces positive outcomes. A place at Waterloo Lodge School will ensure improvements in behaviour, confidence and self-belief, which can then be transferred into appropriate and accelerated learning inside the classroom and beyond. At the School we offer a flexible, personalised, engaging skills based curriculum providing both choice and challenge focused on developing emotional literacy, core subject knowledge and offering a wide range of accredited outcomes.

Working with your Senior Leadership Team you will ensure the school’s effective management and the required team capability to continually improve. You will be joining a high achieving company and executive team, leading your own school and positively impacting the lives of many young people. As part of our team you will focus on developing self-esteem and well-being, as well as academic performance and development.


Who are we looking for?

We are looking to hear from experienced Head Teachers or rising Senior Leaders with experience of inspiring multi-disciplinary teams to deliver outstanding learning for children and young people with special education needs.

The successful candidate will bring a creative and innovative approach to improving performance and support for our pupils and their families. An excellent communicator, you will act as an ambassador for Waterloo Lodge School and will have demonstrable experience of working in partnership with parents, commissioners, local authorities and other stakeholders.
