Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Headteacher, who will bring great leadership, passion and vision to developing and delivering high quality education.

Our Headteacher must be able to maintain high expectations and challenge for all staff and students.

A fantastic opportunity for either a current leader or an outstanding teacher with demonstrable leadership potential, to guide the school on its journey to outstanding.

Phoenix School is the education provision for adolescent in-patients at Cygnet hospital Sheffield, and is a specialist provider for young people who are suffering from severe and/or complex mental health conditions. The maximum capacity of the school is 38, and the young people stay in-between. Class sizes range from between 1-7 students.

Registered with the department for education in summer 2016, Phoenix school went through a full OFSTED inspection within its first year, achieving ‘Good’ overall, with ‘Outstanding’ in personal development, behaviour and welfare. Inspectors were impressed by the ‘calm and purposeful atmosphere’ in the school, putting this down to the ‘trusting relationships’ built between staff and students.

We are looking to appoint a candidate with a proven track record of outstanding classroom practice who is able to maintain the high expectations and challenge of all staff and students. You will bring passion, vision and creativity to developing and delivering high quality education at the school and have the people skills to manage a talented, committed and motivated staff team.

Depending on the candidate, the post holder can be offered mentoring, support and training to help them fulfil this role.

In return you will be rewarded with a supportive head of education and proprietor, a committed school community, continued professional development and the associated job satisfaction of working in this uniquely rewarding environment.

For additional information please download our candidate briefing pack or call Ed Hall (head of education) for an informal chat on 07860834648 (email edwardhall@cygnethealth.co.uk).

Visits to the school are welcome. We have appointments available throughout the vacancy period, please contact Rebecca Price (school manager) on 0114 279 3317 or RebeccaPrice@cygnethealth.co.uk to arrange. Such a visit is not part of the selection process and whether or not applicants have visited will not influence the final outcome.

To make an application please complete the application form available on TES.
