Hillcrest Shifnal School are looking to appoint a dynamic and dedicated Head Teacher to join our independent DfE registered School in Shifnal, Shropshire. Currently rated Good, our school specialises in providing primary and secondary education to children and young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Salary Scale L18 – L24 (£59,264 p.a. -  £68,643 p.a,) with  teachers’ terms and conditions.

Our school provides specialist education for 55 students, aged between 7-19 years old and we deploy of a wide range of teaching strategies to engage and develop the progress of reluctant learners, who present with a range of learning styles and often lack basic skills in literacy and numeracy. Our students are taught in group sizes of 5 or less with two members of staff with each group, and all students work towards GCSE and equivalent qualification in functional skills. 

As Head Teacher, you will be expected to create a shared vision and strategic plan which inspires and motivates both our students and staff, whilst driving through the School Improvement Plan to establish a Centre of Excellence. With strong leadership skills at senior level, you will work in collaboration with other senior managers in the group to provide a service that encourages new pupil referrals.   

Ideally with previous experience as Head Teacher, applicants must also meet and evidence the following criteria:-

  • Hold a relevant teaching qualification with proven experience as Head Teacher or Deputy Head Teacher
  • Have experience of working with children and young people with social, emotional, mental health difficulties or similar (SEMH / EBD / BESD / SEN)
  • Hold a thorough understanding of OFSTED procedures and inspections
  • Be financially aware, with experience of managing budgets effectively to ensure cost efficiencies 
  • Have developed effective leadership skills with previous experience of leading and developing a team
  • Have knowledge of safeguarding procedures and relevant Regulatory Body Regulations
