Position Information 

South Grafton High School is a rural, comprehensive, coeducational high school of over 750 students, 64 teaching and 17 non-teaching staff. Many of our students come from a low SES background and 27% of them identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.  SGHS is located on the southern side of the Clarence River, in the heart of the Clarence Valley and within easy driving distance of Coffs Harbour, Yamba and Maclean. The school has excellent facilities including an agricultural farm, modern science laboratories, a Trade Training Centre for our Construction course and industry standard kitchens for our Hospitality course. In addition to this, our classroom teaching spaces are being upgraded to provide learning environments that are functional and engaging.

Our school provides learning environments that cater for individual student learning needs, as well as opportunities that allow all students to develop to their full potential. This includes an integrated model that supports four MC classes, an ED class and a Tutorial class. In addition to this, the school funds a Transition Learning Centre (TLC), which supports students struggling with the demands of mainstream classes and a Clontarf Academy, which provides targeted support to our Aboriginal boys. 

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

Demonstrated instructional leadership skills in gathering, analysing and interpreting school-based and system data to inform the development of teaching and learning practices and assessment that support student growth and attainment.

- Demonstrated ability to identify and model exemplary, evidence-based teaching practices and work collaboratively to lead targeted, high impact professional learning to support the development of all staff in order to improve student outcomes.

- High level interpersonal and communication skills with the capacity to lead and engage a collaborative team, building positive, inclusive, trusting relationships with students, parents, staff, external agencies and the wider community.

- Demonstrated ability to be a dynamic member of the executive leadership team and to lead initiatives that address whole school strategic directions.

  
General Selection Criteria 
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
 
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
