Position Information 

Francis Greenway High School is an inclusive comprehensive secondary school with a Support Unit. The student population continues to grow with a current enrolment of 751 students. 7% of students have a background where English is an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) and 19% identify as having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. The school forms part of the Gateway Learning Community of schools who, as a group provide a continuous path of learning for all students.

 

Students are provided challenge and support to reach their educational potential, including targeted strategies to support high potential and gifted students. Students engage in a variety of extracurricular activities in sport, science, culture, the arts, drama, music and leadership. The student body are represented in decision making processes across the school through both the Student Voice Team and the Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group. A strong wellbeing focus is based on clear, consistent and fair boundaries, high expectations and individual recognition of success.

The school values the support of its community. We have fostered strong partnerships with universities, cultural institutions, business and industry, and community groups. Our Parent and Citizens body is a highly supportive group involved in the decision-making process and the operation of our school canteen. The Maitland Local AECG is a valuable consultative body which supports our Junior AECG and implementation of the Aboriginal education policy.

The Technological and Applied Studies faculty members have a broad range of skills and experiences and teach across a wide variety of mandatory, elective and VET courses. The faculty has a strong focus on preparing students for future learning and employment through innovative and enriched learning activities. Staff professional development ensures our classrooms are ones where quality teaching is assured, where the curriculum is innovatively taught, with a future focused approach.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 
 

1. Ability to lead the implementation of quality curriculum and assessment practices, informed by the effective use of data, to improve student outcomes across Stage 4, 5 and 6 TAS courses, and including VET subjects.

2. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead the integration of innovative technologies into classroom practices and to support a culture of high expectations and academic success.

3. Demonstrated high level organisational, resource management and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to improve the performance of both early career and experienced teachers.

  
General Selection Criteria 
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
 
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
