Teaching ServiceOak Flats High School is located on the land of the Wodi Wodi people of the Dharawal Nation, on the shoreline of Lake Illawarra on the South Coast of NSW. We have an enrolment of 675 students.
Our school is a diverse learning community with 14% of students identifying as Aboriginal, and 10% of students having a language background other than English, which includes 18 languages. We also have seven classes for students on the Autism spectrum and three classes for students with mental health issues. The diversity of our school ensures a rich learning environment in which students can develop empathy and understanding for all people. Catering for and celebrating this diversity is part of our commitment to ensuring every student is known, valued and cared for.
The 2021-2024 Strategic Improvement Plan priorities are focused on Aboriginal education, improvement of HSC results, improved literacy and numeracy, high expectations for learning and behaviour, and building belonging and aspirations. All staff are actively engaged in the implementation of projects and strategies to improve our practise in these key areas.
Our school is part of the Lake Illawarra South Network, and with our partner primary schools we form the Oak Flats Learning Community. We have a comprehensive transition program commencing in Stage 2, which was recently recognised with the Executive Director’s Award for Innovation. We have a shared curriculum program with Lake Illawarra High School to ensure both schools can offer a broad range of courses to our senior students.
We are looking for staff to join our team of passionate and inspiring teachers who are committed to improving learning outcomes for all students.
The TAS Faculty has facilities for the delivery of timber, metals, VET Construction and Hospitality. Our recently created STEAM Design Lab is fully equipped with 3D printers and laser cutter. The faculty also has a working farm as a resource for the delivery of Agriculture in Stage 5 and VET Primary Industries in Stage 6.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate innovative technologies and classroom practices to support a culture of high expectations and academic success within a future focused learning environment.
- Demonstrated capacity for strong educational leadership in developing and implementing innovative and differentiated teaching and learning programs to improve learning outcomes for all students, including Aboriginal students, high performing students, and students with disabilities.
- Capacity to lead the analysis of a range of data to guide the improvement of teaching, learning, assessment, HSC results and retention within the TAS faculty.
- Capacity to work as a dynamic member of the diverse executive team and to lead initiatives that address whole school strategic directions and nurture positive and productive relationships across the school community.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
