Job overview

Head Teacher – Heathermount School, Ascot

Salary £58,231 to £72,813 for Grade of L14-24, inclusive of fringe allowance.

Are you an enthusiastic, inspirational and positive leader who wants to make a difference to the lives of students with Autism?

We are looking for a new Head Teacher.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Heathermount School, a ‘good’ non-maintained special school near Ascot, for children with autism.

Heathermount is managed by a large, national charity (The Disabilities Trust), which provides a personalised education experience for up to 76 children and young people (4-19 years). Rated ‘good’ by OFSTED in February 2019, our school is located within 14 acres of beautiful grounds.

If you believe that pupils with Autism should have every opportunity to achieve their full individual potential, then we would like to hear from you.

Our approach and expertise in autism helps students who may not have been able to engage previously in education to thrive and succeed.   This approach is driven by experienced teaching staff and therapeutic team input working collaboratively to support the student  journey.

We need to appoint a proven leader with the passion, drive, and vision to take our ambitious school forwards. Ideally a previous Head or a long-standing Deputy, with experience of working in the special school environment, you will work collaboratively within the Trust and with the Governance arrangements to consolidate and continue to improve the excellent provision which Heathermount provides.

To set up an informal discussion with the Director of Operations please contact dawn.heap@thedtgroup.org

We are committed to the following principles:

• The students are at the centre of all that we do, and the flexible curriculum we offer is made up of a series of personalised pathways

• We take a broad, holistic view about encouraging and ‘measuring’ our pupils’ progress

• The person-centered targets which we set with students (and their parents) are challenging, realistic and personal.

• Individuality and diversity are valued and celebrated within a culture where both students and staff are seen as learners.

• Our commitment to continuous improvement drives all plans and activities.

• We are constantly reviewing how Heathermount School can contribute to and benefit from being part of its larger, parent organisation (the Disabilities Trust).

More information about Heathermount School can be found on the school website www.heathermount.co.uk or by contacting cssrecruitment@thedtgroup.org.

For an application pack, please see the attachments.  To apply, please send a letter of application with a supporting CV to tracey.paynton@thedtgroup.org

Heathermount is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its students. All positions are subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check, Barred List check, Prohibition checks and references.

The closing date for applications is 29/04/2019.

The interview is a two-stage process with first interviews will be held in London area on 15/05/2019 and the 2nd interview within the school in w/c 03/06/2019.

Visits to the school are encouraged for successful 1st stage candidates.

Notes for applicants:

As Heathermount continues to grow, the Head Teacher’s salary will, of course, be subject to annual review.

Re-location allowance: a re-location allowance may be available for a successful candidate.

Building confidence & preparing students for life

We are an Independent sepecial school specialising in a broad and balanced education for children and young people aged between 5 and 18 years old with Autistic Spectrum Conditions.  We are a well resourced day school with excellent facilities.  Located within 14 acres of beautiful grounds in Ascot we make good use of our setting to improve students' well-being.  It is a calming environment to help manage anxieties.  Our class sizes are small (max 8 in Secondary).  Students follow a range of pathways, according to their individual needs and take qualifications ranging from ASDAN and Functional Skills through to Level 2 NVQ/BTEC and GCSEs.  Both core and vocational courses are available and students enjoy the opportunity to study business administration, catering and horticulture alongside more traditional subjects.

In summer 2021 we proudly achieved the highly regarded Advanced Autism Accreditation status as well as the Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA) and Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS).  Our last Ofsted Report in February 2019 concluded that we are a good school with the potential to become outstanding in the near future and this is very much a focus for the whole staff.

Heathermount School is part of the Cavendish Education Group.
