Job overview

Newland House is unique in its local area as a co-educational IAPS day prep school for approximately 450 pupils, from 3-13. Located in Twickenham, London, it was founded in 1897 and moved to its current site in leafy Waldegrave Park in 1944. The school is situated on two sites, with the prep and impressive newly built pre-prep on one large site, and a newly opened nursery just over the road.

RSAcademics are delighted to be assisting the Governors of Newland House with the appointment of their next Head, from September 2019, following the decision of the current Head to retire.

The school aims to provide an excellent all-round education for all its pupils that encompasses a breadth of opportunities, whilst preparing its children for top London day and national boarding schools. It seeks to promote enquiring minds and build on pupils’ strengths, interests and experiences so that every pupil is valued for the talents and beliefs he or she brings to the school. The school’s success lies in its ability to promote pupils’ self-esteem, enabling them to become rounded individuals, who can make a seamless transition to their senior schools.

The Governors are seeking a visionary, indeed progressive, Head, with strong communication skills and leadership experience. The successful candidate will be approachable and empathetic, with the ability to maintain cohesion between all the key stakeholders. The individual will possess the commercial and financial skills needed in the current climate of prep school education and will demonstrate the managerial skills necessary to lead this energetic and successful school forward into the future. The successful candidate will be offered a salary which will reflect the importance of the post, as well as an attractive package of benefits. Accommodation will also be provided by the school.

Newland House is a very special school.  You only have to walk through the front door to experience its wonderfully friendly atmosphere and the great sense of purpose that symbolises so much of what is done here. Set in three buildings, it boasts a newly established Nursery, a Pre-Prep in a new, stylish and ergonomic building and a Prep which mixes the modern and traditional.

It is proud of its achievements, not only because children regularly win scholarships to some of the best independent senior schools in the country, but because their awards are not just academic but are for music, sport, art and all round ability too.

The school’s strength lies in the breadth of education it provides.  Every child has the ability to succeed.  Teachers find the areas in which they show promise and nurture them.

The sense of family and community and the mutual support between teachers and pupils is an especially strong feature of the school.  Newland House School wants its children to be happy and self –confident, as well as having the desire to care for and respect others too.
