Job overview
St George’s is a leading independent day and boarding preparatory school situated in a unique setting at the foot of Windsor Castle. With a rich heritage dating back to 1348, St George’s remains true to its original purpose of educating choristers of St George’s Chapel and today is a vibrant community of around 330 boys and girls aged 3 to 13, with boarding from the age of 8.
In 2023, St George’s became both an IB World School and full member of Round Square. This is truly a school at the forefront of modern preparatory education with a pioneering vision and determination to do things differently and provide an experience for children which enables them to develop as ‘Real World Ready’ learners. St George’s believes that education needs to be progressive, dynamic and relevant to prepare students more appropriately for the modern world. This enables children to be positive contributors to life and fully prepared to embrace the opportunities and challenges that will break down geographic and cultural borders like never before.
The Governors are now seeking to appoint a visionary and inspirational leader to succeed Mr. William Goldsmith as he takes up the role of Head of Packwood Haugh School in September 2024. This is a rare opportunity, working in close partnership with a fully supportive and ambitious Board, to lead St George’s with vision and ambition to ensure the School continues to thrive in a changing marketplace. The next Head will ensure St George’s fulfils its aspiration to be a sector-leading co-educational prep school offering a truly world-class education for all girls and boys, whilst maintaining its educational values and distinctive heritage.
The successful candidate will demonstrate alignment with the School’s ambitious educational aims and be wholly committed to the mission and identity of St George’s. They will have first-class communication skills alongside a proven ability to engage with, motivate and inspire the whole school community through a visionary and empowering approach. This person will have a high level of strategic and commercial acumen alongside a collaborative and enabling style that will help them bring out the best in others and engage effectively with a diverse audience.

Letters of application and CVs should be submitted via the Odgers Berndtson website by the closing date, 9:00am BST on Friday 6 October.
St George’s School Windsor Castle is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
