Job overview

Make your mark at the heart of a unique school community.

At Ludgrove School, we have two mantras: “Be kind” and “Be the best you can”. Life has changed beyond recognition since the school was founded in 1892, but we remain constant in our mission to give our 190 boys aged eight to 13 confidence in their own abilities, strong moral awareness and values that will form the foundation of a happy and productive life. The first-class education we deliver has made us one of the most successful and prestigious preparatory boarding schools in Britain – and you’ll find this an exceptional place to build your future.

Providing comprehensive, confidential support to the Headmaster, you will manage wide-ranging enquiries from parents, staff and visitors to the school. Equally importantly, you will co-ordinate a busy diary, organise staff training, record key data, update our internet site, oversee recruitment advertising and interviewing, and much more. You can also expect involvement in some interesting projects and presentations, so you will enjoy plenty of variety and will require a flexible approach, exceptional interpersonal skills and meticulous attention to detail.

An experienced and capable secretary, ideally you will join us from a busy school environment and will bring proven ability to manage your own workload and balance conflicting priorities. Capable of providing a professional, responsive service even at the busiest times, you should be highly computer literate, passionate about making a difference and able to solve problems in a creative yet structured way. In return, we can offer you the chance to make your mark at the heart of a unique educational establishment – plus an excellent salary and a wide-ranging package of benefits.

Further details of the school may be found on our website here.

Ludgrove is a thriving fortnightly boarding school for boys age 8 to 13, which sits in 130 acres of spectacular grounds and it is a magical place to spend five years of childhood. I feel privileged to be the Headmaster and together with my wife Sophie endeavour to lead the Ludgrove community pastorally and academically. We believe our homely environment provides a wonderful place where boys flourish and realise their potential.

As a school, we are unashamedly ambitious for every boy and are proud of our strong academic record. The boys have a wealth of opportunities: a stimulating curriculum, exceptional facilities and a vibrant extracurricular programme with exposure to music, drama, sport and art. We aim to develop the boys’ confidence in a caring supportive environment, where they are valued as individuals and learn to live as a community. Friendships are made for life and the unique Ludgrove spirit allows boys to thrive in an atmosphere of high achievement, happiness, good manners and kindness.

My family and I feel lucky to live and work in beautiful surroundings with such a talented and committed staff, happy boys and supportive parents. The website can only give you a flavour of life at Ludgrove, so do please come and see us.
