Berda Claude International School (BCIS) is located in the heart of Phuket, one of the most prestigious locations to live in Thailand. BCIS is a fully accredited Cambridge CIE international school, with over 400 students across 3 programs, EYFS (Kindergarten), Cambridge Primary (Years 1-6) and Cambridge Lower Secondary (Years 7-9). The school is equipped with modern facilities and is expanding rapidly into a second campus in August 2019.

The main responsibilities of the School Headmaster are as follows:

Academic Leadership

  • Provide leadership in curriculum planning, development, monitoring, evaluation and assessment.
  • Create conditions which ensure that the school is focused on effective teaching and learning according to the standards, principles and practices of the Cambridge curriculum.
  • Promote the development of high academic achievement in BCIS, through data analysis and early interventions to support students’ learning.
  • Provide academic and administrative leadership ensuring that the school is fully prepared for Cambridge evaluation visits.
  • Provide leadership in the development of academic policies and practices (curriculum, language assessment, special educational needs, academic honesty) that are consistent with the school’s academic goals and values and the requirements of the Cambridge program.

Staffing and Professional Development

  • Ensure that BCIS has a full complement of highly skilled and committed staff.
  • Foster strong leadership in BCIS by overseeing the recruitment, professional development, supervision of capable faculty.
  • Oversee all administrative functions pertaining to the successful operation of the School in collaboration with other school academic leaders.

Communications and Community Relations

  • Ensure the necessary communication channels are in place with parents and guardians to support the effective operation of the school.
  • Promote the mission and vision of the school to a wider BCIS community.

Environment

  • Cultivate a safe work environment that ensures effective learning.
  • Promote a culture of life-long learning among staff and students.
  • Encourage strong student and staff relations.
  • Generate a high quality and rewarding work experience for all members of the school community.

Students

  • Work with the admissions team to ensure that the selection of students serves to identify those who are well aligned with the expected student profile.
  • Cambridge Program implementation and evaluation.
  • Establish and coordinate behaviour intervention programs with students and parents.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate evidence of the following skills, capabilities and experience:

  • Inspirational leadership, combined with strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • Successful experience as a School Headmaster or principle, including leadership of the development of curriculum and assessment, and policy formulation and implementation.
  • A successful track record of recruiting, developing, coaching, mentoring, evaluating, and leading teachers and staff.
  • Previous experience as an effective and innovative Cambridge practitioner and demonstrable knowledge of the principles and practices of the Cambridge curriculum.
  • An effective team player who is committed to achieving whole-school team goals in a respectful and collaborative manner.
  • Experience of working in a holistic education environment with an integrated co-curricular activities programme.
  • A proven track record of achieving high standards of academic performance, personally and through the teams that they lead.
  • A track record of inspiring educational excellence personally and through their teams.
  • An ability to provide and receive feedback for continued development of self and others.
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with all staff, students and parents.
  • Solid experience in the integration of technology into the classroom and curriculum.
  • Experience living abroad, ideally with some experience in Thailand.

Qualifications

  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree in education.
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree or PGCE shall be given preference.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or valid teacher licensure.
  • At least 5 years’ experience of teaching and administrative experience in an international school working with the Cambridge curriculum.
