Job overview

An opportunity for an existing school leader to take an idyllic village school to the next stage of its improvement journey within a supportive Multi Academy Trust

Nunney First School is a village school set in a picturesque village close to Frome, a vibrant and highly desirable town in the Mendips.

As part of the three-tier structure of schools within Frome, Nunney First School is deemed as a primary and caters for pupils from Reception to Year 4.  The school’s predicted number on roll for September 2021 is 68 pupils, having grown significantly under the leadership of the current Headteacher, moving from ‘requires improvement’ to a school which Ofsted has rated as ‘good’ with pupils’ behaviour and attitudes as ‘outstanding’.

The school is highly valued within and supported by its local community, with a team of staff and governors that are dedicated, motivated and passionate.  Whilst small, the opportunities offered to those that attend are wide ranging, inspiring a love of learning and a passion to aim high.

This is an fabulous position for a successful, committed and experienced professional who is looking to further shape and grow the school, raising standards and ensuring that the school’s happy and nurturing environment and place at the heart of the community is maintained.

Whilst an understanding of the needs and requirements of a rural school are desirable, they are not essential. Joining a community consisting of enthusiastic children, a friendly staff team, a supportive local governing body and engaged parents and carers, the successful candidate will have a record of high quality leadership within the primary sector; possess first class communication skills; be a caring individual and a ‘hands on’ leader and hold a strong desire for the school to be a key part of the community. They will be part of a close network of professional, supportive and collaborative colleagues within a forward looking Trust as well as part of a strong wider community of schools in and around Frome.

For those candidates that are seeking a position of up to 0.8 fte and who have a significant portfolio of successful school improvement across a number of schools, there is a potential opportunity to take on an additional role within the Trust School Improvement Team. If this is of interest, please indicate clearly on your application form.

For further information on this opportunity please see our downloadable application pack and visit the school’s website and the Trust’s website.

Current restrictions allowing, we would encourage you to visit the schools if possible.  Please contact Sue Heal, the school’s current Headteacher (office@nunneyschool.com or tel: 01373 836429) to discuss how this may be possible or to have an informal conversation to find out more.

Application process:

Closing Date: Midday Monday 15 March 2021

Interviews: Thursday 25 March and Friday 26 March 2021

Nunney First School and The Partnership Trust are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It expects all staff to share this commitment and the successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced safeguarding checks.
