Job overview

Thomas Hickman is an inclusive school which has improved rapidly over recent years. High quality of pastoral care is central to our ethos. The school promotes the importance of physical education and a healthy lifestyle. Our previous Headteacher, who re-located to a different part of the Country, led the school to a “good” Ofsted grading in October 2015.

However, there is more work we need to do to ensure we are providing the best learning environment for our pupils. Can you help to embed and extend our literacy initiatives? Can you help us put in place engaging opportunities for creative subjects such as art, drama and music? Can you ensure that our pupils are sufficiently challenged with homework?

The role

We are looking for an exceptional and passionate Headteacher who will securely embed the progress that Thomas Hickman has made in recent years whilst driving further improvement towards the outstanding school that we are committed to become.

Our pupils say ‘I love THS because I can learn new things in each lesson (the teachers learn new things too!) and if you join us you can learn new things fast.’

About you

We are seeking an inspirational educationalist with the passion, vision and strategic leadership skills to ensure that our children get the outstanding education they deserve in a friendly, supportive, environment. The successful candidate will promote and inspire the highest standards of teaching, learning and pupil achievement. They will have exceptional team building and communication skills and encourage all stakeholders to get involved in building stronger relationships both within the school and the wider community. They will be totally committed to child protection, which is a key issue for the school, and will have a broad based and thorough understanding of child protection issues in the widest sense.

We can offer you:

  • Committed, hard-working and supportive staff who have an outstanding commitment to improve our school.
  • A pro-active and supportive Governing Body that has realistic but challenging expectations of progress and attainment.
  • Pupils who are appreciative of staff dedication to their learning and welfare and who love being at our school.
  • A genuine challenge! The further progress that we are seeking will not come easily but will be immensely rewarding to the person that leads it.
  • We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, which will be reflected throughout recruitment.
