About Brighton Hill Community School

Brighton Hill Community School serves an area on the south-west side of Basingstoke, comprising a mix of privately owned and local authority/housing association rented accommodation.  The catchment area of the school also includes a number of rural villages.

Opened in 1975 in purpose built accommodation, Brighton Hill Community School is currently an 11-16 co-educational comprehensive community school with 820 students on roll.  The school has good facilities set on a well-maintained site.
Currently, our student computer ratio stands at 2:1.  Our computer system is fully networked (including wireless networks) throughout the school, facilitating electronic registration and collection of assessment data.

The school occupies a site in excess of twenty acres.  We have larger than average playing fields, use of Powerleague football pitches during the school day, a sports hall, a specialist fitness studio, a dance/gymnastics suite, specialist music rooms, a theatre with a dedicated audio/lighting facility, seven dedicated ICT suites, a community hall, dining halls and specialist teaching accommodation for Technology, Mathematics, Science, English, Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages and Expressive and Performing Arts.

Through outstanding partnerships promoting life-long learning, we are fully committed to the concept of the outward-looking school, generating high quality educational and wider outcomes for every member of our community, developing their skills, attributes and knowledge in order to prepare them fully for life and work in the 21st century.  We therefore challenge and support all of our learners to become resilient, adaptable, responsible and independent citizens.  We believe in a shared sense of purpose and in the values of mutual respect, consideration for others and positive self-esteem.

Our students want to be inspired and will work hard when they feel that their teachers and support staff are committed.  In other words, Brighton Hill is a very normal community but with ambitions to become outstanding as quickly as possible and determined to address the needs of all of its students.

The school curriculum is currently structured around eight faculties. We aim to ensure that students are suitably challenged in all areas of the curriculum and are given the opportunity to make outstanding progress.

We offer a three-year Key Stage Four curriculum in order to prepare our students thoroughly for terminal examinations; in addition, students access a wide range of extra-curricular activities that help to develop their skills and we offer a broadening curriculum to cater for the different needs and interests of each student.

The school enjoys a high quality support and guidance structure which reflects the growing maturity of our students as they move to become young adults.  Four Heads of House coordinate the work of their tutor teams.  Tutor Groups are organised using a vertical tutoring model for students in both Key Stages where Years 7 and 8 are tutored together, and Years 9, 10 and 11 together.  Positive tutoring and mentoring are regarded as the cornerstones of the ethos of the school and underpin all we do; tutors are the first port of call for students and parents.
