A unique opportunity to lead this highly successful, oversubscribed, growing and forward thinking, all through free school on its exciting journey from good to outstanding during its development with other good and outstanding providers in a locally based MAT.

Future leadership planning, at Batley Grammar School, has always been underpinned by the ability to look ahead, prepare for and anticipate change. The governors seek a Headteacher who has the vision, professional leadership and management skills, across all aspects, to lead the school and take it further on its journey to excellence.

The Academy Trust is currently forming the next stages of strategic development with other good and outstanding providers in a locally based MAT. You will therefore be able to demonstrate a clear appreciation of the advantages and opportunities this presents, and a desire to lead within a Multi Academy Trust that is passionately committed to securing exceptional educational outcomes and generating high aspirations for all learners in our local family of schools, whilst celebrating community cohesion in Batley, Birstall and Dewsbury.

Batley Grammar School is able to offer:

· A strong leadership team, including supportive and appropriately challenging governors, committed to student outcomes and staff development;

· An excellent reputation for extra-curricular opportunities, qualities we wish to preserve;

· A dedicated, hardworking and positive team of staff;

· A civilised learning environment with high standards of attainment and behaviour;

· Supportive parents;

· Further opportunities as we grow and develop within a Multi Academy Trust.

Batley Grammar School is a 4-16 Free School (Academy) with an auspicious 400 year history, (one of the first former independent schools to convert).  Current numbers in the school are 208 in Reception to Year 6 in the Primary Phase and 610 in Years 7-11 in the Secondary Phase. The appointee will work closely with the Director of Primary Phase.

Whilst Batley Grammar School is an all-through school, and having experience of this is desirable, governors welcome applications from school leaders with single-phase experience who can demonstrate a good match for the person specification.

There will be the opportunity to visit the school and meet with the Executive Principal, MAT Development and Transition on 11 or 13 June 2018. Please contact Rosie Gregg, rgregg@batleygrammar.co.uk and she will make an appointment for you.

Closing date: 12 noon Tuesday 19th June 2018

Interviews: Monday 9th /Tuesday 10th July 2018

Welcome to Batley Grammar School

At Batley Grammar School we aim to nurture students and pupils in a caring educational environment, enabling them to grow into confident, respectful, independent and successful learners. In so doing, equipping them with the depth of character and enthusiasm necessary to aspire, thrive and prosper in future academic and wider social endeavours.

Batley Grammar School is a “good school” (Ofsted Oct 2018) and we continue our school improvement journey to become an outstanding school. We aim to combine our traditional ethos and culture together with a modern approach to teaching and learning.  Visitors regularly comment about the friendly atmosphere and calm, purposeful learning environment being quite palpable.

At Batley Grammar School we value teachers who take a pride in their work and in the school and who are willing to contribute fully to the life of the school including its extra-curricular programme.

About BGS

Batley Grammar School was a fee paying HMC independent school which underwent the transition to become a state funded all through 4-18 Free School in September 2011. The NOR has gradually increased over the last four years and is currently 960 (200 pupils in the primary phase) and will grow to approximately 1000 in the next few years to meet the demand for places. Our development has continued in 2019/20 as we joined the Batley Mulit Academy Trust, working with local schools to serve the families in the local community.  Batley Grammar School currently has a five faculty structure: Mathematics and Technology; Science; Creative and Performing Arts; Communications and Discover.   The school has an established reputation for academic progress, good standards of behaviour and extensive extra and co-curricular opportunities.

 We offer:

 • A strong leadership team committed to staff development and student outcomes;

• An excellent reputation for extra-curricular opportunities, qualities we wish to preserve;

• A particularly hard working and positive team of staff;

 • Supportive parents and governors and delightful students and pupils.
