Purpose of the Role
The Headteacher is the lead professional and role model for the school community, responsible for providing visionary and operational leadership that ensures high quality education, safeguarding, and wellbeing for pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
About New Ways School
New Ways School provides tailored support for pupils with Autism, ADHD and other learning difficulties and disabilities, focusing on fostering their academic, social and emotional development.
Areas of focus include sensory integration strategies, social skills training and executive functioning support to help pupils manage time, focus and self-regulation.
Key Responsibilities
Develop strong partnerships with parents, carers, the local community, and external agencies to enhance pupil outcomes and wellbeing.
Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the school improvement plan, setting clear priorities and measurable targets.
Manage resources effectively, including staffing, finance, and facilities, ensuring alignment with educational priorities and compliance with statutory requirements.
Take responsibility for the financial performance of the school, including budget planning, monitoring expenditure, and ensuring value for money in resource allocation.
Ensure the school meets statutory SEND requirements and provides tailored, high-quality support for pupils with additional needs
Establish and sustain high-quality, expert teaching across all subjects and phases, based on evidence-informed practises and understanding of how pupils learn, including those with complex needs
Create a culture where pupils experience a positive, enriching, and safe school life, promoting respect, inclusion, and high aspirations
Requirements
Passionate and committed to supporting students with SEND
Proven leadership experience in a special school or complex educational setting
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS)
Deep understanding of the Ofsted independent school inspection framework, statutory duties, and safeguarding.
Ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a diverse team to achieve high standards, modelling the Staff Code of Conduct.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with staff, pupils, parents, governors, and partners.
Commitment to the Nolan Principles and highest standards of professional conduct as outlined in the Staff Code of Conduct
Ability to develop and implement a clear vision and strategic plan for school improvement.
Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, following the Staff Code of Conduct.

Pupils
New Ways School is dedicated to pupils with Special Educational Needs, including ASD, ADHD, conduct disorders, attachment difficulties, global developmental delay, and moderate learning difficulties (MLDs). We use a therapeutic approach to help young people understand themselves, connect with others who have similar needs, and navigate the wider community. We also work closely with external agencies, including CAMHS, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, social workers, and Barnardo's, to further support our pupils’ well-being.
