Job overview

Our current Headteacher, Mr Alistair Brien, is retiring after 19 very successful years at the helm and we are now looking to recruit his successor.

BSG is a girls’ 11-18 grammar school with 1200 pupils, including 300 in the sixth form, which has the core aim of developing well-rounded young people ready to make a difference in the world.  Members of the school community all agree that BSG is a very special place in which to learn and with over 100 years of academic excellence we have a strong reputation both locally and nationally. Achievement is consistently high and BSG has maintained its position as one of the top state girls’ schools in the country for both progress and achievement.

Another particular feature of the school is the wide range activities and opportunities for leadership that we offer - over 50 clubs and activities take place, many of them led by sixth form students and we are also amongst the largest providers of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the southwest.

We want someone to combine our illustrious past with their own vision for our future.  If you are as excited by this opportunity as we hope you will be and you believe that you might be the right person for the role, then we warmly invite you to apply.

The application form should be received in school by 16:00 on 2nd February 2022.

School Leadership Scale range 37-41 (£102,159- £112,660).

Values and Vision

As a selective institution, the school sets a high academic standard for entry. Potential applicants are expected to pass a number of tests - Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning.  Entrance to the Sixth Form is open to external applications, pending GCSE results. The school itself offers a high-quality academic curriculum for its students, supported both by strong facilities and proper careers guidance.

Ofsted

“The effect of teaching over time in all years, but especially in the sixth form, is outstanding. Such high-quality practice on enables all, including disabled students, those who have special educational needs, those who have a first language other than English and those supported through the pupil premium, to make outstanding progress. Teachers have high expectations for their students, which encourages them to achieve and progress well in lessons and over time.”
