Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a rapidly expanding special school through the next stage to become an outstanding all through special provision.

After many years of highly successful leadership, our Headteacher is retiring at the end of this academic year. The Governors wish to appoint an inspirational, energetic, visionary individual who will lead us on this journey. This is a fantastic opportunity for a leader who has the skill, experience and tenacity to grow and inspire the highly trained team of staff who are passionate about the future for our learners. This individual will be able to reflect on their bank of skills and experience drawing on this to drive the strategic direction of the school.

We are a Bristol based Foundation School with Trust status; the Trust is Trust in Learning. We are based in the south of the city alongside an all through mainstream Academy with whom we have extremely close links.

We currently have 132 pupils; 98 in Key Stage 2 – Key Stage 4 and 34 in our Post 16 provision. Our pupils have Severe Learning Difficulties, Profound and Multiple Difficulties and those with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder. All of our pupils have complex needs and many have behaviours that challenge. In September 2018 we will be opening a new Foundation and Key Stage 1 provision which will increase our place value to 150. This is an exciting and challenging time for the school community and requires a person who is resilient and able to assess and manage risk effectively.

The schools vision "Valuing the Individual, Achieving together" is the core of all our work and underpins everything we do.

The school was judged as ‘Good’ after the most recent OFSTED inspection in February 2017, the Lead Inspector stated in the OFSTED summary "Leaders know the school and it’s pupils exceedingly well. As a result of high-quality teaching and a curriculum that motivates and inspires, pupils develop a love of learning and make good progress from extremely low starting points. Pupils are extremely proud of their school. They describe how they love school and feel well supported and cared for by staff, not just in their learning but also in their physical and emotional needs."

New Fosseway School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.

We would expect all candidates to visit us to help inform your application and we would love to meet you. The existing Headteacher would welcome a visit from prospective applicants during the week of 19th March 2018 and to arrange your visit, please email our Business Manager, Liz Baker, at: ebaker@bridgelearningcampus.com
