Job overview

Overview

Our students and staff at The Mandeville School need a courageous leader who will commit themselves to improving their school. This is an opportunity to build on current developments and help Governors achieve their ambitions for the school.

The Mandeville School is seeking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated Headteacher to work with Governors, Staff, Students and Parents to ensure the school thrives and each student is empowered to have a secure future.

Closing date: Monday 19th April 2021

About Us

With around 1,000 students on roll and an over-subscribed Year 7 intake, we are a popular school in the heart of Buckinghamshire. We are fortunate to be based in a culturally diverse, supportive and ever-changing community in Aylesbury with excellent transport links. Our students are respectful, hardworking and eager to succeed.

We are an ambitious school and have embarked on an exciting journey of improvement, where we are progressing rapidly thanks to the hard work of our enthusiastic, loyal and committed staff. Our sharp focus on teaching and learning means we are relentlessly striving to become better as a school. There has been a period of uncertainty for staff and pupils so we are looking for a Headteacher who can make a lasting impact on our school and the lives of the pupils.

Please see our website www.mandeville.bucks.sch.uk for more information about our school.

About The Role

We are looking for a wise and kind Headteacher who will draw on their experience to deliver the high quality provision which our pupils deserve.

This is an opportunity to make great change, to inspire and lead staff, to build on recent improvements and bring strong ethical educational values, clarity of vision and proven expertise with an emphasis on teaching and learning, behaviour and engagement in the classroom.

We will be looking to you to put in place practical strategies to improve progression further, raise attainment and enable students to enjoy their learning and to believe in their own abilities. As the school continues to improve, the Headteacher will be a key player in establishing the future vision for the school.

In return, we offer excellent professional development and the challenge of shaping the future path for the school. We believe this could be a career defining role and we will provide a significant level of support to the successful candidate.

Please see job description attached for further details.

About You

You will have the passion and ambition to raise standards and drive forward a clear vision for the future.  We need a Headteacher who will set clear expectations, be a role model and a strong presence in the school.

You will understand the importance of stability and be able to provide this to staff and pupils as well as building a culture of inclusivity.

Previous leadership experience is essential as well as leading a successful school improvement journey. Experience of improving the OFSTED grade for a secondary school is an advantage.

Please see person specification for further details.

Other information

Current restrictions make the opportunity to visit school premises more challenging, however we will do all we can to accommodate either in person or virtual tours of our school as we understand how important it is to see the school. To arrange a visit please contact the PA to the Interim Headteacher, Angela Cobb on 01296 745407 or angela.cobb@mandeville.school

Closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 19 April 2021.  Completed application forms should be sent to Tara Phipps, Schools Resourcing Advisor at tara.phipps@buckinghamshire.gov.uk

Shortlisting will take place by Tuesday 20 April 2021.

Interviews will take place on Friday 23 April 2021 and will be held virtually, using Teams. Final face to face interviews will be held on Tuesday 27 April 2021

References will be obtained prior to interview, and one reference must be from the Governors of your current school.

The Mandeville School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
