Job overview

Are you a confident and inspiring headteacher? Or perhaps you’re an experienced teacher who thinks you’ve got what it takes to be one? If you’re ready to take on the challenge of your career, then this is just the role for you.

At West Wycombe Combined School in Buckinghamshire, we’re going through a period of transition, as we’re currently in special measures. Dynamic changes are already taking place, but now we need a new headteacher to lead us out of special measures and become the school we know we can be. This is the perfect opportunity for you to build on the work already being done, so there really never has been a better time to make your mark on the education system!

In recent years, West Wycombe has seen some ups and downs. Although last year's KS2 results showed the proportion of pupils who met the expected standard was well above the national average, there is still some way to go. The school has enthusiastic pupils who are eager to learn, passion from a core of skilled teachers and ongoing loyalty from the parents and local community. So we’ve put effective measures in place to start rebuilding the school and raising educational outcomes further – including beginning the process of converting to an academy. We are now looking for someone who can continue this stimulating work.

Part of this work will also include being a key player in the development of a cluster of primary schools within a leading local multi-academy trust. Forming close working relationships with other primary school heads, your leadership skills will directly impact on educational standards for local children. To thrive in this fast-paced role, you will therefore have experience of working in an environment of continual improvement. A collaborative team-player, you will have the enthusiasm to put further changes in place and see them through to fruition, and your communication skills will be second to none.

In return for your commitment to this fantastic single-form entry school, you will receive an attractive salary, plus solid career development opportunities. Just 30-minutes by train from London, this delightful village offers the perfect work/life balance, so if you share our vision to become an ‘Outstanding’ school, get in touch today. Together, we know we can secure a fantastic future for the children of West Wycombe.

For more information about the role, please contact Tony Eccleston, the Chair of the IEB, on 07777 640386 or by ringing the school.

For more information please see the attached application pack, or the school website www.westwycombe.bucks.sch.uk/website.

Closing date: Midday on Wednesday, 22 March 2017.

Interview date: Wednesday 29 March 2017.

West Wycombe Combined School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and references. We are strongly committed to promoting equality of opportunity and the elimination of unlawful discrimination.
