Job overview

Kingsfield Primary School is a two-form entry, co-educational primary school with 470 pupils on roll, including pre-school provision for 60 under-fives. It serves a traditional rural community, situated in the fenland town of Chatteris. The school converted to academy status in 2014, joining the Active Learning Trust, a MAT currently comprised of 21 schools arranged as 3 hubs based in Ipswich, Lowestoft and Cambridgeshire.

The school has been on a journey of improvement over the last two years under the leadership of an Executive Headteacher who has worked extremely hard to put a strong foundation in place for sustainable improvement. This was recognised by positive comments in a recent Ofsted inspection around the school’s early years nursery and reception provision. However, the overall outcome of the inspection, which took place in November 2019 gave the school an overall rating of ‘inadequate’. Despite this, two of the five core areas inspected, personal development and early years provision, were given a rating of ‘good’. The school was also praised by inspectors for its effective safeguarding.

We are therefore looking for a new Headteacher for Kingsfield who is able to now build on the strong foundations laid down and rapidly transform this ‘stuck’ school to a judgement of ‘good’ or better to:

  • create a culture of high expectation and aspiration
  • raise attainment and accelerate progress
  • develop the teaching staff to improve the quality of classroom learning and teaching
  • continue to engage with parents and stakeholders to position the school at the heart of its community

Currently a Headteacher or an outstanding Deputy with substantial experience of school leadership gained in a primary or junior school, you are an inspirational leader with a strong commitment to raising attainment and improving performance. You possess a passion for children’s education and have the focus and drive needed for whole school management. You can also demonstrate a track record of delivering high-quality teaching and learning for all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and a clear commitment to equality of opportunity, inclusion and a culture that celebrates diversity.

In return for your energy and enthusiasm, we offer you the opportunity to lead and further develop a school that has a vibrant leadership team, an enthusiastic staff, a good local governing body and pupils who are curious, receptive, eager to engage and willing to learn. You will be a part of a supportive trust, which is committed to achieving excellence in educational delivery and student attainment, is passionate about developing the communities it serves.

The Active Learning Trust is a well-established MAT in which there may well be opportunities for wider leadership across a group of local schools in the future.

Please supply a contact telephone number.

The Trust and the Local Governing Body actively encourage all candidates to visit the school prior to the interviews. To arrange a visit, please also contact Nataliya Starik-Bludova at Veredus.

Closing date for applications: 9am on March 30th, 2020.
