Job overview

Woodcote High School is a popular school serving young people aged 11 – 18 in the areas of Coulsdon, Woodcote and Purley in South London. With over 1200 students, our intake is fully comprehensive and diverse.  Our consistent track record of success means we are regularly oversubscribed. In April 2018, Ofsted deemed that the school was continuing to provide a Good standard of education.

Our reputation has been built on students' academic performance, alongside a culture which provides support, so that all pupils feel safe and enjoy their experience at school.  We look to fully engage all our students in learning, such that, whatever their background, they become well rounded young people, who can flourish and develop into happy, successful twenty-first century citizens.

Our current Headteacher is retiring after sixteen years in post.  During his tenure and under his leadership, the school has opened a Sixth Form (2009), moved to academy status (2012) and opened an international standard athletics track, (Track Coulsdon) in conjunction with partners in the community (2013).

We now wish to appoint an inspirational school leader, who has the strategic ambition and vision for the next phase of our development.  We are ambitious for our students and our communities.  We recognise the need to develop and evolve given the changing landscape of education and the world of work.

You may be a serving Headteacher or a Deputy aspiring to a post at this level for the first time.  What is more important is that you are passionate about student achievement and ambitious for their success.  You will be equally comfortable working at a strategic level with Governors and key agencies and partners as you will be in the classroom as a role model for young people. Your ability to establish effective relationships with students, parents, staff, governors and broader partners is likely to be one of your key strengths and your emotional intelligence will set you apart.  You will believe in the power and moral purpose of a well-rounded education and insist on the highest of standards for all staff and students – this approach will have shaped your career to date.

Further information can be found at www.pentir.com/whs. For a confidenti al discussion please call our advising consultants Maureen Nicholas (07540 222519) or Mike Phillips (07830 313915) at Pentir.

Closing date: Friday 29th March

Woodcote High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and staff. This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS Check.

About Woodcote High School

Since opening in 1957, Woodcote High School has constantly evolved and grown, whilst remaining at the forefront of educational developments in the area.

Exam results have for many years exceeded national and local averages, delivering a positive Progress 8 score. Other landmark achievements over recent years include significant building projects, the opening of a Sixth Form at the School, the opening of an international standard athletics facility (Track Coulsdon, in conjunction with South London Harriers and other funding partners) and the establishment of the Enhanced Learning Provisionfor mobility impaired students.

Woodcote is a busy community, with lots to offer our students. We encourage students to develop enquiring minds that in turn increases their enthusiasm for enrichment both in and out of the classroom. Those interested in music and performance deliver great seasonal productions, and benefit from a wide range of individual music tuition. Our world-class Track Coulsdon is at the heart of our great sport and PE facilities, and we have a full range of extra-curricular sport.

In the Sixth Form, in addition to the whole school enrichment programme, students have the opportunity to stand for student leadership positions, take part in charity events and lead assemblies for raising awareness on subjects they are passionate about. We also run a series of events where guest speakers are invited into school to speak to the student body.
