Job overview
The Hayes Primary School is a popular maintained school serving children in the Kenley area. With almost 420 pupils, our intake is richly diverse; our consistent track record of delivering great education means we are regularly oversubscribed. In May 2023, OFSTED judged that the school was continuing to provide a good standard of education.
We now wish to appoint an inspirational Headteacher to build on our recent achievements; we are seeking an individual who has the strategic ambition and vision for the next phase of our development, and the experience and skills to deliver world-class education. You may be a serving Headteacher, a Deputy aspiring to headship, or in a senior role in a trust; what is more important is that you are passionate about our pupils’ achievement and ambitious for their success. You will be equally comfortable working at a strategic level with Governors, key agencies and partners, as you will be across the school as a role model for children and colleagues. Your ability to establish effective relationships with pupils, parents, staff, governors and broader partners is likely to be one of your key strengths and your emotional intelligence will set you apart. You will believe in the power and moral purpose of a well-rounded education and insist on the highest of standards for all staff and pupils – this approach will have shaped your career to date.
Should you like a preliminary discussion with our consultant supporting the process, please contact him at Gordon.smith@education-leadership.co.uk, including a phone number. You can also use this contact information to arrange a discussion with the Chair of Governors or a visit to the school.
The Governors are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All applicants will be considered on the basis of suitability for the post regardless of race, sex, age or disability. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

About The Hayes Primary School
We are a warm and vibrant school at the heart of our community and are proud of the education we offer our children and our successes. We believe passionately that a great education is one of the most precious gifts a child can receive. We want our children to enjoy their learning and we achieve this in an environment which fosters the fundamental values including respect, responsibility, empathy, positivity, self-belief, co-operation and tolerance.
Underpinning all we do is a belief that every moment a child is in school must be used effectively. If time is wasted it is lost forever and cannot be given back, therefore, our structures and policies are designed to maximise learning potential spent in school. Our excellent staff team are committed to ensuring the highest expectations for each and every child and this is supported through nurturing a love of learning, encouraging independent thinking, making experiences creative, varied and inclusive and developing skills for life. Although raising standards remains our main objective, we also have great provision and an excellent reputation for sport and the performing arts.
We aim to make learning at The Hayes irresistible.
Children have just one childhood; we believe their primary school experience should be magical, filled with inspirational and unforgettable learning experiences. At The Hayes, we know it is both our duty and pleasure to help our children delight in their precious childhood years, building a firm foundation for the next stage in their education and the rest of their lives. Our ultimate role is to help them blossom and grow, to believe in themselves and that anything is possible.
We believe education is a partnership between home and school and we want to build a long and rewarding relationship with you, in order that your son or daughter may achieve their best and be happy.
