Job overview

Ghyllside is a successful and popular Primary Academy serving a diverse catchment on the south west side of Kendal, the Gateway to the Lake District, just 9 miles from Windermere.

Our long serving and very successful Headteacher is retiring and we are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader to take the school forward in its next stage of development.

“Inspiring achievement, a love of life and learning for all” – is our school mission statement and captures our ethos. We appeal to parents who are looking for a school that is committed to developing children emotionally, socially and intellectually.

We are looking for a candidate who will be able to build on the considerable strengths in our school.

 This person will:

  • be a motivational leader and have had recent successful experience at Headteacher or Deputy Head level
  • demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • be a good relationship builder with the ability to connect with parents, staff, pupils and the wider community
  • be able to lead, develop and inspire a high achieving team promoting teamwork and leadership at all levels
  • have a proven record of successfully implementing initiatives to raise standards
  • have a passionate commitment to inclusive education
  • have the ability to establish a supportive and caring environment in which staff and pupils can flourish

You will be joining:

  • a strong, dedicated and committed staff with an appetite for leadership responsibility
  • happy pupils who work hard, are enthusiastic about their learning and are proud of their school
  • an academy which enjoys good partnership links with neighbouring schools, parents and the wider community
  • a supportive, experienced and dedicated governing body
  • a school with a strong inclusive ethos and values which support the personal development and well-being of children enabling them to achieve the very best of which they are capable
  • a school with excellent facilities

We want a Headteacher who will continue to let over 450 children light REAL candles for Christingle – we know this sounds funny but this sums up so much – someone who oozes trust (in staff, parents and children alike) and has the confidence to commit to our beliefs and values.

We are pleased for prospective candidates to visit school on Thursday 8th September at either 9.30 am or 1.30 pm. Please contact the school office on 01539 814930 to arrange a visit.

The application pack is available from our school website www.ghyllside.cumbria.sch.uk.

Closing date: Monday, 12th September 2016, 5.00 pm
Short listing: Thursday 15th September 2016
Candidates invited for interview: Friday, 16th September 2016
Interviews: Monday, 26th and Tuesday, 27th September 2016

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff to share this commitment. The post requires an enhanced DBS check.
