Job overview

Workington Academy, located west of Carlisle is Cumbria, is looking to recruit a Headteacher.

At Workington Academy, we aspire to provide a vibrant learning setting where each child is given the opportunity to grow and stretch their boundaries. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious individual to take this academy on to the next stage of its educational journey. Having just moved into brand new premises, this is an exciting and challenging position.

Cumbria Education Trust is looking for an individual to provide inspirational and professional leadership for the school, ensuring a high quality education for all its pupils. We want Workington Academy to be the best academy in the area, operating with the highest standards of teaching and learning.

Cumbria Education Trust is a not-for-profit charitable organisation. It was formed in 2015 in a response to an invitation from the Department for Education. Cumbria Education Trust is one of the first school based MATs in North Cumbria – we currently have four schools within our family: two primary and two secondary schools.

Our purpose is to deliver outstanding educational provision and to ensure all pupils/students receive high quality teaching and learning opportunities. Our aim is for each academy to demonstrate year-on-year improvement. We believe in the importance of working with others to share knowledge and best practice and we want all our pupils/students to develop a thirst for knowledge. We are passionate about putting young people first and equipping them for success in the future. By achieving our aim, we can enable every young person to reach their potential.

As a place to live Cumbria takes some beating, from the stunning beauty of the coast, to the challenge of the Lake District and the history of Hadrian’s Wall, Cumbria offers something for everyone.

If you believe you can make a positive contribution to the development of this academy and the Trust, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Headteacher's Welcome:

As the Headteacher of Workington Academy, I am immensely proud of the high standard of education we provide to all of our students. We are a community school, driven to provide the absolute best experiences and opportunities to every young person at the Academy. Our ethos of ‘Be The Best You Can Be’ is at the heart of everything we do, whether in the classroom or on the sports field. Underpinning our ethos are the core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience. Through these values, we are able to round and develop every child in our school and prepare them for a full and rewarding life. As a proud member of Cumbria Education Trust (CET), we work proactively with all our trust schools, to develop an excellent curriculum that supports students in achieving the very best outcomes. Alongside this we also work together to provide outstanding extra-curricular opportunities in the areas of sport, design, leadership and expressive arts.

We strive to continuously improve, never resting on our laurels, always looking for the next step to maximise student outcomes or improve student engagement. We are passionate about going the extra mile for all our students, supporting them to be the best versions of themselves.
