Job overview

A unique opportunity for an outstanding leader

Derby Diocesan Academy Trust (DDAT) and Derby Cathedral are seeking an experienced and inspiring leader to become the founding Headteacher for this historic and unique development in Derby.

Derby Cathedral School will open its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2018. This new 11-19 school and sixth form is being established to help meet an acute need for high-quality secondary places in the Derby area. It will be the first ever Church of England secondary school in the Diocese and will be enhanced by strong links with the Cathedral Choir and Music Department to support a specialism in music. Maths will be the second specialism.

The vision is that the school impacts not only its own students, but also the quality of education in the Derby area as a whole. We are looking for a truly outward-facing and collaborative leader who will realise this potential. You will be the strategic driver of the school, developing the vision and building and leading an outstanding team to deliver it. You will be absolutely committed to the moral and social development of students as well as the very highest academic standards, within the context of a Christian ethos and values. The Headteacher will be forward-thinking and ambitious to create an outstanding school and leading-edge learning environment which enables each and every student to thrive, regardless of aptitude, background or faith.

There is not an expectation that you are a practising Christian, although you will be expected to share the Christian values upon which our ethos will be based.

Join us, lead us, and turn our vision of excellence into reality.

Closing date: 9am, 5th June 2017
Interviews: w/c 12th June 2017

We strive to foster a great sense of belonging in our schools so that pupils, parents, staff and the wider community all feel proud to be part of the family.

Experiences rooted in faith, hope and love
Ethos, vision, values and words are not worth the paper they are written on if they are not lived out and are highly visible every day, permeating through everything that we do.

Highest Academic Standards
Our focus is on developing the whole child so that they become well-rounded individuals who are ready for the next stage in their education or life.
