The Governors are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader to our successful 9-13 Middle School Academy.
This position has become vacant due to the promotion of the previous Head Teacher. There has been an interim Executive Head Teacher in post while a new headteacher is recruited.
Dorchester Middle School is located in the attractive County Town of Dorchester which is sits some 8 miles from the Jurassic Coast in the glorious countryside of West Dorset. The school converted to an Academy in June 2012.
It is a large 9-13 Community Middle deemed Secondary School serving a diverse community and represents fully comprehensive education at its best. Most of our pupils feed into the very successful Thomas Hardye School which is on an adjacent site. Dorchester Middle School is very popular with parents and in March 2014 gained a grading of ‘Good’ during its Ofsted Inspection. It is part of the successful Dorchester Area Schools Partnership of local First, Middle and Upper schools who share resources, planning and expertise in order to enhance continuity across all stages of the childrens’ education.
This school of 600 plus pupils has very good accommodation, playing fields and grounds, and KS2 pupils also benefit from the specialist accommodation and resources provided for the KS3 curriculum.
Within the school there is also a Speech and Language base and a Physical and Sensory Disability base. Consequently, the school is in the highest band for supporting pupils with Education Health Care Plans, enabling the school to achieve a high level of inclusivity, which Ofsted recognised as a particular strength.
The Governors seek to appoint a Head Teacher who can provide enthusiastic and energetic leadership. With clear, strategic vision, you will display high calibre inter-personal and communication skills, complemented by your ability to motivate and inspire students, staff, parents and the wider community.
The successful applicant must have proven leadership skills and be able to build on the school’s present strengths in order to achieve an “Outstanding” rating from Ofsted in the near future. In addition, you should have the ability to deliver first class educational outcomes for all students, irrespective of their individual capabilities.
