Summerhill School is a mainstream, co-educational, non-denominational, community secondary school for children aged 11-16. It is situated in Kingswinford, outside Dudley in the West Midlands, and there are 1,010 students on its roll.

We are a community school. We have wonderful children, caring and supportive parents and a great team of staff. We have modern, well-equipped facilities and are located within beautiful countryside. We’ve faced some challenges over the last few years, but this is a school that’s improving rapidly in every way. We were visited in April 2019 by an Ofsted inspection team and we’re very pleased that they recognised our improvements and rated us as Good in every category. Since then, our exam results have improved further. Members of our school community can be genuinely proud to be part of Summerhill.

Headteacher

Mr Tim Harris

Vision and values

Every Summerhill student wears the words “Success through Caring” on their uniform, and this philosophy genuinely runs through everything we do. We are very proud of the success we have achieved, but we never forget that this is built on a bedrock of caring.

At Summerhill, our House system is absolutely central to school life. It provides nurturing, challenge, teamwork, and fun for all members of our school, building upon a foundation of supportive relationships, family and British values within a global society. Mature and mutually respectful relationships characterise our community and we strive for excellence in every way as we develop young people in partnership with parents and the wider community.

High Expectations

The values that are instilled into young people during their formative years will stay with them forever. We want to be proud of every single Summerhill student, so we focus on 4 key elements that together spell “CARE”. These will lead to success at school, but also for the rest of our students’ lives:

Courage

• Honesty, integrity, doing the right thing even when it’s difficult

• Trying new experiences

• Being resilient and never giving up

Ambition

• Always aiming to be brilliant and demonstrating self-discipline

• Setting a great example as a role model and helping other people to improve

• Being curious and looking for ways to learn more

Respect

• Respecting differences; standing against prejudice and discrimination

• Caring for our local / global environment

• Working well with a wide range of other people; being a great team player

Effort

• Always being focused and organised

• Taking pride in being smart, meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work

• Having high levels of attendance and punctuality

Summerhill students achieve superb examination results. Our attainment levels have been well above the national average for many years. We are eagerly waiting publication of 2019 national results which we expect to confirm that Summerhill’s progress levels are also now significantly higher than other schools (locally and nationally).
