Job overview

Wapping High School is an 11 to 16 co-educational free school set up by the parent led Wapping and Shadwell Secondary Education Trust. Having opened in 2012, we now have 225 students. We are a hub for community activity, reflecting and respecting the rich diversity of students, parents and community partners.

We are intent on “raising aspirations, broadening horizons and ensuring better outcomes for our students”. We believe our young people learn through a range of methods. We have leadership and enrichment programmes as integrated elements of learning, facilitated by a longer working day. This is geared towards ensuring our students are well positioned to embrace future opportunities as confident, outward looking and caring young people.

We are looking to appoint an exceptional Headteacher to lead our school to new heights and to ensure our students' learning experiences are engaging and aspirational. You should be a dynamic and ambitious leader with a proven track record of leadership and excellence in the classroom and a commitment to the education of the whole child and education for the common good. We can offer the right candidate a hugely exciting opportunity to lead further improvement for the benefit of our young people and our community as a whole.

Ethos and Values

Wapping High School promotes an inclusive ethos, in which diversity of need and ability is acknowledged and nurtured. Every aspect of school life will be guided by a strong ethical code, which encourages social awareness to help students understand and meet with confidence the challenges of a diverse and changing society and the world of work. This isl be achieved by establishing a Learning Pathway for each student.

Wapping High School is small and we have a strong sense of school community. Students are divided into ‘houses’ to encourage interaction across the school. Teachers know all their students individually. Families form part of the school community and are fully involved with their children’s education. Outcome-focused home-school contracts are made with both students and parents & carers.

Wapping High School’s ethos and values ensure that children are safe, healthy, positively contribute to their whole community, and achieve economic and academic well-being in adult life. Importantly, all students enjoy attending school.
