Job overview

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced visionary Headteacher who will:

  • Provide inspirational leadership and effective management in order to ensure that all children and staff flourish and achieve their full potential.
  • Work closely with the military Command, key stakeholders in Mount Pleasant airbase and the wider Falkland’s community to benefit the school.
  • Be resilient, have a sense of adventure and look for opportunities to inspire children, staff and parents in the remote, unique and fascinating environment of the Falkland Islands.

Mount Pleasant School is a MOD School which serves a small British military community on Mount Pleasant Airbase, Falklands.

It is a small Primary school catering for children between the ages of 2 - 11 years with approximately 40 – 60 children, numbers varying according to military assignments. Due to the remote location, there is a generous staffing structure with a Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher (substantial teaching commitment), 3 teachers and a Nursery manager with support staff recruited from the population on the airbase.

The school recently (October 2019) moved into a new building which provides excellent facilities.

We are looking for a dynamic and suitably experienced candidate who is passionate about improving the life chances of children and is someone for whom our values and ethos resonate.

This is a unique opportunity to work within the Mount Pleasant Complex in the Falkland Islands and the Falkland Islands has much to offer. The scenery throughout the island is beautiful with a variety of wildlife including several species of birds of prey, dolphins and, of course, penguins. Stanley, the capital is just 35 miles away from Mount Pleasant Complex.
