This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a highly effective, inspirational and experienced leader. Byron College, The British International School in Athens, is looking for a Headteacher to start in August 2019 or earlier. It is a small school with a big community spirit, committed to strong family values and high academic standards and the development of the ‘whole child’.

The School

Located in Gerakas, Athens, Byron College was founded in 1986 to provide a high-quality British-style education for the international and Greek community. It is truly international, representing more than 55 nationalities and with more than 400 pupils, ranging from Nursery to Sixth Form (3-18 years) and a diverse teaching staff. Its students are highly dedicated and demonstrate impeccable behaviour and its staff and management team are dedicated to improving learning. It was recently inspected by, DfE approved, Penta in March 2018 and met all the expected British school overseas standards (BSO).

The Opportunity

The Headteacher will be a forward thinking individual capable of driving innovation and growth, who will work with the Owner/Directors to support the vision and strategic direction of the School. Ensuring high quality education for all pupils, and improving standards of achievement, the successful candidate will inspire, challenge, motivate and empower all members of the school community to carry the vision forward.

The School offers an attractive salary package, which includes: health insurance, flights and free tuition for dependants. There is also an opportunity to have part of the salary to be paid directly into an overseas account.

The Person

The Board of Directors seeks a forward thinking and empathetic professional who will take responsibility for strategic leadership and the management of teaching and learning for the Whole School.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Bachelors Degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • Master’s Advanced Degree in Education or a Educational Leadership qualification
  • Previous successful leadership experience in a British international school setting
  • Experience with accreditation procedures
  • Recent knowledge and experience of the National Curriculum in England
  • Proven track record in school improvement
  • Experience of leading a family orientated medium-sized school with a strong community spirit would be an advantage.
