Job overview

Our Nursery School has been part of the Deptford community for a hundred years. Our founders, Margaret and Rachel McMillan, were pioneers of early childhood education in this country and their ideas have been followed and talked about all over the world. The McMillans strongly valued working closely with children and their families. We carry on this tradition today. We are proud to be rated Outstanding by Ofsted.

In 2006 we became a Phase 1 Children’s Centre. Our Children’s Centre is still going strong and is run in partnership with the locally based Quaggy Development Trust. We are also a founder member of the South Thames Early Education Partnership (STEEP), which brings together six local maintained Nursery Schools to support professional development and to train the next generation of early years teachers with QTS.

Our longstanding Headteacher is retiring, so we are now recruiting for a Headteacher:

  • Who understands the unique qualities of Nursery Schools and their pivotal role in early learning
  • Who shares our enthusiasm for nurturing confident and independent learners
  • Who understands our dedication to training and supporting early years practitioners and teachers.

In return for your leadership, we can offer you:

  • Friendly and energetic children
  • An experienced, supportive and reflective staff team
  • A committed governing body
  • Excellent links with other maintained Nursery Schools and our local authority.

Visits to the school for prospective candidates are encouraged, so please contact our Senior Admin Officer Jayne Day: 020 8692 4041 or jday@rachelmcmillan.greenwich.sch.uk to arrange a visit.

We positively encourage applications from all parts of the community

Closing Date: Midday Monday 30th January 2017

Interviews: Tuesday 7th February and Wednesday 8th February (candidates need to be available on both days)

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
