Job overview

Following the retirement of our Head, Sue Davies, after 5 years of excellent leadership, we are looking to appoint an exceptional candidate who shares our vision to establish Ickburgh as a world-class centre of excellence, and who can lead the school in the next stage of its development.

Ickburgh is a 3-19 school in a purpose-built setting with established cohorts of PMLD and SLD students, and with a growing cohort of students with autism.  We currently have 107 pupils on roll, and we are in a process of planned growth towards our full establishment of 150 students.

This is an exciting opportunity for an established head, or for someone with leadership experience in SEN seeking their first headship.  The school enjoys a well-deserved reputation for having established a supportive learning environment for all of its pupils, and we are looking for someone to maintain and build on that reputation.

Our successful candidate:

  • Will be someone who places the well-being and development of students at the heart of everything they do.
  • Will be committed to working with parents and professionals to secure the very best for our students
  • Will be an inspirational leader who leads by example and is capable of motivating others to give of their best.
  • Is a visionary, equipped to deal with the changing educational environment and able to recognise and exploit opportunity in the continuing pursuit of excellence in all areas of school life.
  • Will have a collaborative approach to working with other partners and with Hackney’s Learning Trust in the pursuit of excellence.
  • Will be committed to developing the school as a community asset.

What we offer:

  • A new, purpose-built setting with scope to expand the school roll and develop the school.
  • The opportunity to work with students who, despite the challenges facing them, enjoy learning and are happy to be in school.
  • An experienced, supportive and hard-working team of staff committed to the well-being and education of all their pupils.
  • A governing body which exercises its accountability supportively and which will be committed to your own professional development.
  • The opportunity to work collaboratively with schools within and beyond Hackney in the pursuit of excellence.
  • The opportunity to be part of a high achieving, forward-thinking local authority.

Visits to the school can be arranged via Helen Petchey PA@ickburgh.hackney.sch.uk telephone  020 8806 4638

Completed applications should be sent by email to ozlem.lindley@learningtrust.co.uk or by post to Ozlem Lindley, Human Resources, Hackney Learning Trust, 1 Reading Lane, London E8 1GQ

Should you have any queries on the application process, please contact Ozlem Lindley, Human Resources Adviser, on 020 8820 7240

Closing date is noon 4th April 2019
Interviews on 23rd and 24th April 2019
