Job overview

Parayhouse School provides a specialist education for students with a range of educational needs for up to 48 students. Students range from the ages of seven to sixteen and cover Key Stages 2, 3 and 4.

Parayhouse is a GOOD school with OUTSTANDING behaviour (Ofsted). Students make good or outstanding progress. Parent feedback is always highly positive. The Governing Body, led by a committed Chair, works closely with the head and staff providing support and challenge.

The vacancy is due to the retirement of the longstanding head and founder of the school. The current Headteacher leaves a school doing very well. However, the governors are ambitious to achieve even more for the very special group of students who attend our school.

We are committed to offering a competitive salary for the post.

The pension is a defined contribution scheme matched to your contribution up to 4%

Is this a school you would be enthusiastic to lead?

If so please email the school to obtain the information pack and application form and to arrange a visit to see the school in action.

Parayhouse was established as a specialist school for students with speech, language and communication and moderate learning difficulties in 1983. More then 30 years later it continues to provide a specialist education for students from Local Education Authorities right across Greater London.

The School is committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment for its students, many of whom are educationally fragile and arrive at Parayhouse with poor self-esteem, low self-confidence and undeveloped basic skills.

Our major goals are for students to become effective communicators, to develop optimum social skills and to acquire a confident and independent approach to learning. The ethos of the School promotes the values of acceptance,
tolerance and mutual support achieved through the maintenance of close relationships and open communication between staff, students and parents.

Students follow the National Curriculum, differentiated to meet their individual learning levels and, following teacher assessment, may be entered for Y6 and Y9 SATs in line with their mainstream peers. All students have an Individual
Education Plan [IEP] with targets drawn up by staff, parents and students at the start of each half-year semester.

Students leave at 16+ for a range of Further Education opportunities having achieved many externally accredited qualifications during their time at Parayhouse.

Parayhouse staff are part of a close-knit, multi-professional team that includes teachers, therapists and learning support assistants [LSAs]. The School is committed to the professional development of all its staff to enhance both their specific skills and the quality of the service they provide to all our students. The School achieved the Investor in People award in January 2006, and was described in the report as “truly a learning organisation”.

Partnership with students’ families is established through the home/school agreement and fostered through regular contact at Open Evenings, Annual Reviews and regular school events. Telephone contact with staff is encouraged to allow for issues and queries to be dealt with speedily.

Parayhouse School exists to provide its students with the language
and learning skills they will require for life.
