The governors of Icknield Special School for children with severe learning difficulties, ages 3 - 19, are seeking an inspirational and ambitious Headteacher to replace Sharon Salmon, our current Headteacher who is retiring.

The school was judged outstanding by OFSTED at the last inspection in Spring term 2015 and continues to improve the outcomes for its staff and pupils. As our next Headteacher, you will be required to maintain the drive and the commitment to continuous school improvement. As a committed and talented leader, you will build on Icknield School’s considerable standing which is already seen as one of the leading special educational establishments in the South of England.

Our new Headteacher will have:

  • Experience of leading a special school as a Headteacher, Deputy or Assistant Headteacher;
  • Understanding of how to maintain a school delivering outstanding outcomes for its pupils;
  • A secure knowledge of and commitment to safeguarding all members of the school and wider community;
  • The commitment and passion to continuous improvement and the drive and ability to take the role of Lead professional, recognised by reputation;
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking with the ability to be creative, rigorous and practical as well as demonstrable leadership skills;
  • A proven ability to care and communicate at all levels with an aspirational approach to successfully engage with pupils and a wide range of stakeholders.
