Job overview

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an aspirational, passionate and committed Headteacher to lead our hardworking team. Nash Mills Church of England (Voluntary Aided) Primary is an average sized school on the edge of the large town of Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. We are a caring, warm and friendly school, where we put children at the heart of everything we do.

Nash Mills has a strong link with the church of St Mary’s Apsley End and has greatly benefited from the active involvement, encouragement and support of the team vicar in the Christian life of the school. We have maintained our ‘good’ judgement (Ofsted, March 2017) and our SIAMS inspection in June 2016 also highlighted the distinctiveness and effectiveness of Nash Mills as a good school.

Our dedicated team of staff and governors would like a leader who is committed to providing a high quality and inclusive education which is underpinned by our Christian ethos and values and is passionate about promoting purposeful, challenging and stimulating learning to enhance standards of teaching and learning at our school.

You will be ready to embark on the next stage of your career, with the ambition, experience and skills to provide strong leadership and management and steer our school through the next stage of its development.

Our governors and staff want a Headteacher who:

  • Has a proven track record with high expectations to lead by example.
  • Believes in promoting excellence and has the passion and enthusiasm to develop a culture of high achievement.
  • Will maintain and further develop the Christian ethos of our school.
  • Is ready to lead our school and to continually seek to develop and advance it.

Our children want a Headteacher who is:

  • Kind, responsible and helpful.
  • Calm; firm but fair.
  • Happy and friendly.
  • A good listener and someone who is patient.
  • A good sense of humour! (Fun and good at telling jokes!).
  • Committed to inspiring everyone to do better.
  • Respectful of Christian values and beliefs and aware of other faiths and cultures.
  • Good at treating everyone as individuals.
  • Well-dressed (but cool!).
  • Good at teaching.
  • Good at helping in class, and not in the office all day.

In return we offer:

  • A Christian family environment with well-behaved pupils who have a zest for learning.
  • A committed and hardworking staff team.
  • A strong and supportive governing body.
  • Strong links with the church of St Mary’s Apsley End.
  • A commitment to your continued professional development and chance to develop and grow in the role of Headteacher.

We encourage you to come and visit us, meet with our staff and talk with the children. To arrange a visit to the school, please contact the school office (Mrs Fiona McClellan) at admin@nashmills.herts.sch.uk or telephone 01442 252972.

If you wish to discuss the role please contact Sylvia Low, the Chair of Governors on 07742 610932 or email slow@nashmills.herts.sch.uk.
