Salary: L28 to L34 (£96,673 - £111,976)
Closing Date: Monday 27th January 2025 at 9.00am
Interview Day 1: Wednesday 5th February 2025 to be held at Hyde High School
Interview Day 2: Thursday 6th February 2025 to be held at Tameside College
Following the retirement of the current Headteacher, the Governors are now seeking to appoint a Headteacher with the passion, vision, energy and ambition to maximise the life opportunities for the students of Hyde High School, an oversubscribed school, popular within the local community.
Hyde High School is in the process of voluntarily academising and is expected to become a full member of the Tame River Educational Trust (TRET) later this academic year. As well as leading the school on a day-to-day basis, the postholder will serve on the Trust’s Executive Team, helping to inform and shape the Trust’s strategic aims. All of the Trust’s Headteachers have the autonomy to implement the Trust’s core educational purposes in a way that is beneficial to their school. The Trust recognises the importance of each of its schools maintaining their unique identities.
Hyde High School currently has an Ofsted rating of “requires improvement”. The school is in a good financial position, it is not operating under, nor is it forecasting a deficit. We have been working with TRET as our school improvement partner and an ambitious 2-year School Improvement Plan is well under way. This is an exciting time and the position presents a fantastic opportunity for a visionary and innovative leader who is ready to take on the challenge and opportunity to make a difference to the lives of our young people.
Hyde High School cares about its staff, it is a warm and welcoming environment with a team of dedicated professionals. Staff wellbeing and professional development are priorities of both the school and the Trust, and the Headteacher will be expected to uphold and build upon these values.
Our Headteacher must be able to:
· Demonstrate and model leadership excellence, resilience, drive and determination in an urban school with a high level of disadvantage; ensuring that the school operates in compliance with all statutory regulations including safeguarding and Health and Safety.
· Have the ambition and aspiration for every young person in our school to reach their full potential.
· Work collaboratively with all stakeholders and partners, to ensure an inclusive community, building and cementing positive relationships.
· Ensure that teaching and learning is of the highest quality within a responsive curriculum model that meets individual needs and abilities.
· Model the values of the school and Tame River Educational Trust.
This position would suit an experienced school leader or an already serving Headteacher.
The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
References for all shortlisted candidates will be taken up prior to interview.
If you are ready for a new challenge, we would welcome an application. Please complete the application form in full and forward it to Rachel Fawcett at r.fawcett@hydehighschool.uk along with a covering letter which addresses the responsibilities described within the job description and outlines your experience and suitability to carry out the role. Your letter should be no longer than 2 sides of A4, font 11.
Please contact Rachel Fawcett at r.fawcett@hydehighschool.uk should you wish to arrange a tour, or an informal discussion with either the Chair of Governors, the Chair of the Trustees or the CEO of TRET.

Values and vision
Hyde High School is a popular and improving co-educational school with 1150 learners from a range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our proudly multicultural school is recognised as having a harmonious ethos where pupils show positive attitudes to learning, kindness to others and where they achieve well. We have high expectations of all members of our school community and strive to promote a true sense of pride and team spirit, where mutual respect and support are unequivocal and where learning is truly valued and at the heart of everything we do. A dedicated and talented team of staff work hard to secure the best possible outcomes for all pupils; staff morale is good and our latest Ofsted report shows a clear upwards trajectory.
The most recent (2023) inspection noted that:
- Pupils, staff and residents of the local community are proud of this school.
- The school has prioritised the development of the curriculum... it has high expectations of what pupils can achieve, including pupils with special educational needs.
- Pupils enjoy the increasing range of opportunities available to them to enhance their learning.
We are proud to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and that prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of 21st century life. In the context of our school, this means offering an academically robust curriculum, enhanced by more creative and practically based courses; we believe that the arts, physical education and technical subjects should be promoted as vital facets in the development of well-rounded pupils.
