We are currently looking for a Headteacher to lead our school in Clapton. Leaways School, London, is a thriving day school in Clapton, East London, rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted. The school provides education for boys and girls aged between 7 and 17 years who have social, emotional and behavioural problems. There is also a separate ASC unit “The ARC” on site with specialist staff which supports those pupils who are on the spectrum. The school provides a safe, educational and nurturing environment which meets the needs of all the students through bespoke, curriculums. Due to the needs of the young people within the school experience in EBD, SEN or SEMH is essential.

The Headteacher will be required to lead the School in all areas of practise to ensure it delivers high quality education and care to all its pupils. The Head will be expected to structure, organise and develop a team of professionals who are committed to delivering the School’s Vision ensuring the highest possible outcomes for all its children.

Key Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • To ensure consistent, high quality education and care is delivered to all pupils that attend Leaways School
  • To line manage key personnel in the school including inter-alia the Deputy Heads (to ensure high quality delivery in (and outside) the classroom)
  • To develop a rigorous program programme of self-evaluation within the School which drives a vibrant, high quality School Development Plan
  • To ensure the quality of learning experiences for all our children is best in class and that the School demonstrates substantial pupil progress on both academic and non-academic levels
  • To instill a culture of best practice in the school where everyone is working to achieve a common goal which is clearly understood by all
  • To ensure a working environment which employees are motivated and empowered to achieve in all they do for our children
  • To act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the setting

Person Specification:

  • Qualified teacher
  • Experienced senior leader preferably as a head teacher but not essential
  • In a present or recent role of senior leadership
  • NPQH/or on NPQH at present
  • Experience of SEND particularly SEMH and preferably some experience of ASC
  • Experience of working alongside local authorities and outside stakeholders
  • Understanding of therapeutic interventions in an educational setting
  • Proven track record of leading and manging of multidisciplinary teams
  • Solid Understanding of current education legislation and practices
