Job overview

Victoria College has been serving the Island since 1852, delivering high quality education to boys from Year 7 to Sixth Form and helping them to build successful futures. As a college, we aim to create well rounded, resilient young men who have the skills, attitudes and values to be successful individuals who will make a positive contribution to society.

This is a very exciting time for schools and colleges across Jersey and none more so at Victoria College, as the Government’s education system enters a period of significant transformation with an ambitious Educational Reform Programme which aligns to the top priority of ‘Putting children first’. The reform which draws on the Independent School Funding Review, the Big Education Conversation, a three-year programme to set Jersey on track to compare with the best education services in the world.

You will lead the College from September 2022, building on its established strengths, whilst also delivering strong leadership in addressing areas for improvement and building stronger links with Victoria College Preparatory School, Jersey College for Girls and the wider family of schools across the Island. Key to this will be to lead the engagement of the College, its students, staff, parents and governors, in the important work of the Education Reform Programme in shaping the future direction of education in Jersey – and for the College itself.

To succeed, you’ll need extensive knowledge, experience and understanding of current educational theory and practice and its impact on creating a high-quality learning environment. Most importantly, you will need to demonstrate an understanding and vision of how to make whole-school effective change, through a management style of inclusivity coupled to intellectual rigour, adaptability and enthusiasm.

For an initial conversation on this position, please contact the Group Director of Education, Seán O’Regan at s.oregan@gov.je who is leading the recruitment process for the Government of Jersey, alongside the Governing Body and the Jersey Appointments Commission. Visits to the College are encouraged, and additionally, a conversation can also be arranged with the Chair of Governors, to share the vision for the College with prospective applicants.
