Job overview

An opportunity to lead an Innovative and growing school that seeks Excellence and Educational Challenge

"Are you a cut above the rest; a leader who can inspire children, teachers and parents alike? Do you care deeply that every child is given the opportunity to succeed beyond just the academic grades?

The Weald of Kent's ethos is 'academic excellence, personal success'. Due to the retirement of the current Headteacher, an opportunity now arises for an outstanding leader to take the school forwards and upwards, on to the next chapter of its exciting journey.”

Weald of Kent Grammar School Academy Trust (WoK) is an “outstanding” (Ofsted 2007) grammar school for girls aged 11 - 18, with a co-educational Sixth Form. The school is uniquely based on two sites, in Tonbridge and Sevenoaks.

We deliver education to over 1,400 students, with over 350 students attending our Sixth Form. At WoK we create opportunities for students to achieve excellent academic results as well as providing a platform for developing their personal qualities, talents and interests.

In November 2014, we were the first grammar school in the country to be granted approval from the DfE to extend our school into an annexe 9 miles away in Sevenoaks. This opened on a new purpose-built site in September 2017 with an oversubscribed Year 7.

In May 2014, the DfE awarded us Teaching School status. WoK is the lead school in the Kaizen Teaching School Alliance which comprises of a broad range of educational partners who offer proven experience accrued from working across all phases and in a variety of educational settings and contexts.

Our ethos values and nurtures individuality, not stereotypes. Our curriculum engages, enthuses and sparks curiosity and achievement. This prepares students for the competitive world as it develops their intellect and stimulates personal confidence and resilience.

Governors are seeking a Headteacher who will embrace the exciting and challenging future ahead, who is able to navigate the ever changing educational landscape, ensuring we are the first choice grammar school locally whilst raising our profile as a centre of excellence.

Governors will appoint a Headteacher who will:

  • Balance expansion and progression against continuity of ethos and performance.
  • Ensure consistency across both sites and to use WoK’s unique situation to seek further growth and improvement.
  • Continue to provide a safe, supportive environment that enables students and staff to reach their full potential.
  • Ensuring that all students are treated as individuals and the same opportunities and outstanding teaching are provided for all.
  • Improve outcomes for students, closing any performance gaps. Retain and recruit outstanding teachers and support staff development.
  • Enhance our place and standing in the local social and business community.
  • Be inclusive, giving every child, no matter their background or situation the same equal opportunity as others to access a grammar school education.
  • Embrace the opportunity to lead a progressive organisation, supported by a Governing Board which is committed for the School to be pathfinders in education and to widen our sphere of influence.
