Job overview

ED 17676

Governors of Southgate School are seeking a passionate and inspirational leader who is committed to the principles of nurture.

Due to the retirement of our current Headteacher we are looking to recruit an exceptional dynamic leader who will share our vision and lead our school forward during an exciting time in its history. Our school has recently moved to a new site, newly refurbished for our needs and is currently going through the process of doubling in size to 164 pupils.

We know we transform lives; we need a senior leader with vision, courage, drive, intelligence and organisational brilliance, who puts young people at the heart of everything they do, takes enormous joy in their unique qualities, and also knows how to inspire and get the best out of staff.

As a school for 'complex needs' we provide support for children between the ages of 4-16 years. Pupils have to have a significant learning disability to come to our school, performing well below expected levels in mainstream, and usually additional impairments or conditions.

We are proud to be a ‘school with a difference’ with a deep commitment to a powerful ethos. At the same time we provide an exciting and challenging curriculum and our pupils make extremely good academic progress by the time they leave us. Parents are positive about the impact of the school on their children.

Our aim is to provide our pupils with the skills, knowledge and confidence to enable them to lead fulfilling lives.

If you want to lead a strong team and support a powerful ethos that is proven yet different and is backed by extensive research then this is the perfect opportunity.

We are looking for a Headteacher who has:

  • The ability to develop the best possible learning environment for all our children to ensure they are successful in their learning.
  • An excellent knowledge of how to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of children with complex needs.
  • The ability to embrace our child centred inclusive vision.
  • Emotional as well as academic intelligence.
  • Experience of working in partnership with outside agencies, the community and parents and carers.
  • The ability to motivate colleagues through change.
  • The commitment and drive to be a strong visionary leader who constantly strives to develop our school.

What we offer

  • A school with an ethos of positivity and mutual support.
  • A strong team of enthusiastic, high performing and dedicated staff.
  • An effective Governing body that is supportive and engaged and welcomes innovation.
  • Supportive parents and carers.
  • Newly refurbished building and facilities.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff are subject to an enhanced DBS check. A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. Please contact the school office on: 01484 504544 to arrange an appointment for either Wednesday 24th, Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th, or Wednesday 31st January.

To apply for this job, please download and complete the application form attached.

Completed applications can be submitted by e-mail to: headteacher.recruitment@kirklees.gov.uk or by post to Elizabeth Rowlands, Floor 1, Kirkgate Buildings, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD1 1BY, by Friday 2nd February 2018.

Interviews to be held 27th and 28th February 2018.
