Job overview

Following the retirement of our existing headteacher, we are looking to recruit a new headteacher to lead the school into the next phase of its development.

Kirkburton Middle School is a thriving, oversubscribed and well regarded school in Kirklees which takes pupils from the beginning of Year 6 to end of Year 8. We are part of The Mast Academy Trust whose values are rooted in collaboration and child centred decision making.

We are looking for someone with ambition and drive; resilience and emotional intelligence and the ability to inspire and motivate our people. You may be a senior leader in a Secondary school or a serving headteacher in a large primary school, but you must have a passion for cross-phase working and a commitment to the unique opportunities afforded by middle school education.

In return we can offer you:

• The opportunity to work with fantastic pupils who are eager to learn.

• Committed staff and a strong and supportive Governing Body.

• Support from experienced headteachers and a committed and             professional trust board.

• A commitment to professional development opportunities.

We warmly welcome visits to the school and would be happy to discuss the post further with candidates who may be interested in applying. More information can be found in our Recruitment Pack.

All applications should be submitted by email to: Melanie Humphreys, Executive Administrator, via email: mhumphreys@themast.co.uk

Our School

Kirkburton Middle School is a mixed, non-denominational academy middle school for pupils aged 10-13. We are a highly popular, oversubscribed and ambitious school with 510 pupils on roll. We pride ourselves in being a vibrant and inclusive school that is passionate about the continuous development of the `whole child’ within a middle school setting.

The three years between the ages of ten and thirteen are characterised by rapid physical, social and emotional change and are of great significance in the academic and social development of young people. Kirkburton Middle School provides a welcoming and secure environment in which pupils enter as young children and leave as confident young adults, each developing at the rate that is right for them. Academic standards at the end of Year 8 are above average and there is a thriving programme of extra-curricular activities. The ethos of the school is a particular strength: welcoming, harmonious, inclusive and mutually supportive. Relationships between all members of the school community are excellent.

In 2016, the school was proud to became part of the Mast Academy Trust, which also includes Shelley First School, Scissett Middle School and Birdsedge First School.
